Hypothetical scenario.

Its July 31st 2007, Prior is 15-3 with a 3.21 ERA pitching a completly injury free season, do you sell high?

I that happened, I'd start looking into a Chicago trip in October. And no, I wouldn't trade him at that point.

I pinch myself and wake up. :D

Really, there's not enough info there to make a choice. Who else is in the rotation at the time? How are they performing? How's team health? etc.

What if you can use Prior, bring in a 3rd team, and get Miguel Carbera?

Cabrera? Guys like him and Pujols are the crazy exceptions to the rule...of course you'd move Prior for Cabrera. Hell, I'd move Zambrano pitching the season of his career if it would net me Cabrera in the next 1-2 years.

But by and large, no, I'm not trading Prior if he's pitching like that unless an absolutely dynamite offer is put out there. He's too young and too good and if he's pitching like that only another fluke on-field injury would knock him down.

I would not trade Zambrano for anyone.

Considering the Cubs' current team I would agree with you (since neither Cabrera nor Pujols would be better than Ramirez or Lee to the degree that it would cancel out losing Zambrano).

I'd be slotting Cabrera into a corner OF spot, so he wouldn't be replacing Ramirez.

That damn Pujols bum could go in the OF too.

What has Bruce Miles said about Prior's projected health for next spring?

The curator broke the story last year that he had a shoulder problem, first denied and vilified and then turned out to be true.

I heard that Prior is progressing and strengthening but the Cubs are not slotting him into the rotaton.

Until I see changes however Prior still is the big piece for the Cubs to be that WS contender...healthy and effective as '03, he then is the ace.

i am not willing to pencil prior into anything more than 2 starts for the entire season in which he gives up 5-8 runs each. he may not be finished for his career, i have no idea. but to pencil him in as a starter for any lengthy period of the 07 season would be insane. act like prior doesnt exist and if he gets healthy and gives us anything its a bonus.

If Prior is pitching like that, no way we trade him.

Thats the real Mark Prior, not the guy we've seen the past couple years.

Actually, trading Z is growing on me. I was looking at John Smoltz's career the other day, and the year after his walks jumped up significantly, he went down and pitched 134 innings.

I'll say it again, but the Cubs have to seriously watch and weigh the risks of signing Zambrano to a track. I really want to eat crow on this one, because he's one of the best young pitchers in baseball, but theres just so many red flags.

If Z could net us Miguel Cabrera or someone young and very good like that, I'd do it in a second.

What does this guy have to do to get people to realize he is just a horse? I mean the guy took a fungo bat to the arm and still went out and performed!

But I do see, statistically, what you mean how his production could go way down if he lost some of his stuff, but with a pitcher like Z, who doesn't come often through the system, you have to take your chances.

Prior needs to do 2 things.

1) go out and get a tattoo.

2) grow a mullett.

This will definately make him tougher, and he will be able to pitch all season.
