Who's Ben Maller?

 

I believe Ben Maller is the overnight guy on Fox Radio.

 

He does some weekends and fill in work for FSR. The website he runs is fantastic. I check benmaller.com daily.

 

Quite reliable as well.

Secondly, I would actually rather pay/overpay to acquire Meche. In the playoffs, Westbrook's stuff wont win you a game, neither will Maddux' - at least with Meche you have a chance.

 

you have to get to the playoffs first. westbrook gives you a better chance of doing that than meche.

 

Also with Z, Schmidt? and a healthy Prior (here that comes again) Westbrook wouldn't be a huge concern in the playoffs. If Hill reaches potential, Westbrook may not even make playoff rotation.

His bat plays way, way better at SS than it does in CF. If he's getting signed, it had better be to play SS. Put Soriano in CF and hope it works out.

If you can sign Lugo, you put him at SS because you can afford to have Pie at CF and batting 8th to develop with people like Soriano, Ramirez, Lee, Lugo, Barrett, Murton, and DeRosa in the lineup. Ship Jones off in a deal for a pitcher.

maybe the cubs are planning on moving soriano to center, signing floyd, trading jock, and signing wilson as a 4th OF in case floyd's leg explodes.

 

if the cubs can trade for westbrook, sign schmidt, and sign floyd/wilson, i'd consider this an unusually successful offseason. with a deep pitching staff and a great lineup, you can afford a guy like izturis at SS.
