To be fair there isn't ONE PLAYER IN BASEBALL that can help win a World Series by himself---and that includes Albert Pujols.

Well, Bonds at his best is the most obvious. But then again, the Giants didn't make it until Schmidt had his best season.

Still not a fan of this deal.

Can someone please help convince that this can be decent somehow?

I just don't see it.

"The Rapist" for 600, Alex

I don't know if this has been posted yet, but just a complete turd of an

article today in the Sun Times by Carol Sleezbag.

Just some points.

And if the value of Soriano's contract comes to $850,000 per whiff based on last season's strikeouts?

Taking a talanted player's weakness and dividing it by salary has always been a gargage argument.

they'll really be counting on Mark Prior to pitch every fifth day next year

umm, if you paid attention moron, the Cubs are looking to add 2 more starters from what I hear(plus Cotts will also get a chance to start). How is this relying on Prior?

And then, um ... oh, yes, Rich Hill.

Did you even bother watching Hill that last few months of the season?

The Cubs didn't seem to have much interest in Japanese star Daisuke Matsuzaka
.

THEY PUT IN A BID NEAR 30 MILLION FOR HIM YOU FREAKIN IDIOT!

First came the five-year, $75 million contract for Ramirez, whose lack of hustle was rewarded handsomely
.

Just shut up you nimwit

Was the embarrassing 2006 season the catalyst? Did those 96 losses shame Tribune Co. into caring

ummm ya think?

Andy MacPhail, the guy everyone liked to beat up on, is gone. MacPhail served one good purpose, as a go-to guy for fan frustration. The only problem with the MacPhail-bashing -- and I took my share of swings -- is that it ignored the fact that MacPhail served at his bosses' discretion.

ARE YOU SERIOUSLY THIS DUMB SLEEZBAG? CAN YOU NOT PUT 2 & 2 TOGETHER?!?!?!?!?!??!?!? MacPhail re-signs and 2 months later the Cubs(for the first time ever) out bid every team in MLB for a FA. THE PROBLEM WAS MacPhail YOU NIMWIT!

Seriously, I have been the biggest Hendry basher out there,(and no doubt he has fumbled the football at times the past few seasons) BUT IT WAS MacPhail ALL ALONG! OPEN YOUR EYES FOR CRYING OUT LOUD.

I cannot take this crap journalism anymore, I just can't.

I don't get that at all. If he struck out once, he'd be getting $17 million per strikeout. Even if you assume that strikeouts are a very bad thing, there's no way to rate strikeouts and dollars and have it make sense.

She is utterly worthless. Her and Couch are easliy supplanting Mariotti for #1 trash journalist at the Sun-Times.

I actually enjoyed Mariotti's column today(I hate to say it but I did). He has been alot better of late.

No kidding. The more he strikes out, the less they cost.

We should be thanking him for giving us such a great deal on strikeouts.

And these are the idiots who tell you that stats are worthless. Meaningful stats are priceless. That's how I make my living.

This off-season is presenting quite a strong case that it was MacPhail all along who was hampering Hendry's movement as the GM. From the revelation of Andy's role in Aram's opt-out clause to the aggressiveness with which Jim has pursued targets this year w/o Andy's shadow hanging over him.

Well, we saw mediocre pitching win this October, so it must be true.

Obviously, if a team wins, then a pitcher got a win, so you can always say pitching wins.

Can't let this one go, just listened to Dan Patrick from yesterday quote

'Soriano will only hit bad pitching , if your pitching staff is bad watch out, if he faces tough pitcher it's 0-4 everyday. Good luck to the cubs , ride him to the playoffs but count on him to do nothing after that'.

Any of our stats people want to look if this is factually correct, what are his numbers like against Oswalt Carpenter etc? How did he do against Floridas staff last year? they seemed to have a pretty decent team era.Maybe Patricks right but i'd sure like to know.

You mean hitters don't hit well against good pitchers and do hit well against bad ones? You're kidding! Never would've thought...wow. Thanks for the insight, DP.

I'm guessing this is based solely on the way he performed in the 2003 playoffs, when he completely crapped the bed and struck out about 25 times.

It's a stupid quote. How many players hit good pitching?

I thought the same thing when I heard that. Needless attacks on Soriano that don't even make any sense. I have the sense he's just trying to poison the waters.

I'll tell you what, I'll take my chances once we get to the playoffs..

I like that she took the total # of strikeouts in 2006 (160) and divided it into the value of the entire contract.

It should have been $106,000 per K, not $850,000 per K. Apparently you don't need basic math skills to be a journalist these days.

Somebody hurry up and send this to FJM!

Maybe she thinks the Cubs are paying him 136 million for just this year.
