The Red Sox would have a market for Coco Crisp if they chose to trade him, with three or four teams, including the Marlins and Cubs, very interested. But with Jacoby Ellsbury a year away, it seems implausible. It doesn't appear the Sox would commit to Wily Mo Peña playing center -- which seems to be his best position -- for a year, though they could sign an older Kenny Lofton or Steve Finley. But Crisp could bring pitching help, mostly in the bullpen.

Besides having a cool name, why would the Cubs want a guy that is worse than what they have now? The last thing they need on the team is a light hitting OF with a career .329 OBP and a career .700ish OPS. Lets hope the Red Sox don't put him on the market.

It depends how much it would cost us. The article mentions for relief help. They missed out on Speir and are considering JoBo for their closing jobs, so that how desperate they are for relievers. If they want Dempster then I pull the trigger immediately. Coco suffered through a thumb injury all last year and it showed. I would expect him to bounce back to his 2004 and 2005 production which was pretty good for a CF. Similarly to Pierre he has a low IsoD so his OBP is very batting average dependent. Also he has a very very weak arm. But he is fast and has good range. He doesn't steal as many bases, but has improved his %. He provides pretty good pop too. He'll make 15.5M over the next 3 years. So if in this market that gets you DeRosa or AGon, hes has excellent value. The problem is that CF is our position of improvement, be it Sori or Drew. Coco is not the guy who is going to push us over the edge. Depending on who we would have to give up he most likely will be better than signing Lugo to a 4/32 and throwing him in CF.

The only scenario I would take Crisp in, is one where it costs us expendable bullpen arms/Izturis - and only because we could unload Jacque, displace Fons at lead-off, and presumably buy Lugo for SS.

He's alot of Boston hype.

Crisp numbers are aweful, ugly, poopy... well maybe not so bad but extremely mediocre. Why give up anything of value to get a player like this? He is basicly Bynum with a cooler name.

He'd be a good player to have on the bench if we would be trading izturis or eyre for him. Other than that, no.....

I wouldn't mind Crisp only because I would annoy everyone by repeatedly saying "I'm coo coo for Coco Crisp," everytime something exciting happened in a game thread.

Personally I think now is the best time to try to get Crisp when he's had a very subpar year. He's only 27 and had 2 very decent seasons in 2004/2005 with Cleveland until his drop off in Boston in 2006.

If all it would cost us is Izturis and a reliver, I'd say do it. He is a good defensive CF (although his arm is Pierre's at best) who can go get the ball. I'd really like to see us get Crisp when his value is as low as it's been for awhile - personally I think Boston is a very difficult market to play in and Crisp was definitely saddled with an injury early in the season which I've heard affected him most of the season.

He could be a real bargain in this market and give us a CF who could definitely put up .300/10-20hr's/20-30sb's/.330-.350obp and a solid glove out there. It's a good scenario for us because it would allow us to trade Jones or Murton and if Pie is ready in a year or so, Crisp should have decent trade value.

I don't think he's a "difference maker" for our team, but I think he's a decent fit and allows us some other options.

I'm coo coo for that point.

Buy low. 2006 was an anomaly for Crisp. He's a good player entering his prime, and he's undervalued. Eyre and Izturis for Crisp.

I'd do that trade if Boston agreed to it in a heartbeat

If Crisp is the alternative, I'd rather use the players you mention to help get a pitcher (eg, Westbrook) and sign Dave Roberts instead. Roberts has just as good OBP, much better baserunning, and you won't need to sign him to a long-term deal.

I see Crisp as a marginal improvement over Lucky Pierre, I don't want to give up players for him.

I have heard that Dave Roberts is seeking a three year deal.
