''I love our infield,'' Hendry said. ''You have two Gold Glove winners [in Lee and Izturis], a great player at third base and a guy here who is a quality, quality player.''

That doesn't sound like someone that's going to trade Izturis to me.

Why tip his hand? If anything it can be construed as talking up Izzy for a potential trade.

Right, GM's don't say "We really want to trade this guy because he sucks and we hate him."

Well...our GM does. Or has been known to. Lets hope he has lived and learned from that.

don't remind me

Sorry.

At the same time, he could be attempting to boost Izturis' trade value.

he has a history of doing that sort of thing, IIRC. I think Izturis and Dempster are goners.

He's going to trade for ARod or Tejada and have them play SS, which is why Lugo would play CF.

/tinfoil hat.

Would that really surprise anyone at this point?

With Hendry looking at Westbrook/Lee, Meche, Lilly, Bautista, etc., I wonder if he is looking at a blockbuster trade. With Derosa signed, it looks like Izturis (wishful thinking) or Cedeno is expendable along with most of last years young pitching (Marshall, Mateo, Ryu, Marmol, Guzman, etc.). Depending on the trade partner, we've kicked around the idea of JJones, Barrett, Novoa, Dempster, and Eyre. I would like to hold onto Howry, Ohman, and Wuertz though. It looks to like Hendry could put together a pretty attractive package depending on the other club's needs.

Any thought to trading relief pitching (Phillies would want Howry) for Aaron Rowand?

Heck yes. Less so for Tejada, but if he pulled off an ARod deal and didn't cripple our farm system, I'd be floored.

I think getting Rowand and holding Kenny Williams hostage for him is step one in any major deal. We could pluck one of their pitchers from them and then flip that guy along with others for an impact player.

I wonder how many times Lou and ARod have talked since he became Cubs Manager? :-k

And there's your 4 team trade:

Howry to Phillies

Rowand to White Sox

Garcia to Team X

Player X to Cubs

I just went and looked at his stats, and you're right. Somehow I thought he was much better.

He had a nice start to his major league career, and was credited with a good amount of the glory for the White Sox world series. He was a good, but not special minor leaguer. Now that he's in the last years of arbitration, and coming off two bad seasons, I don't see much value in him. If Philly non-tendered him, or took back a less valuable trading chip (Dempster?), then I could see trying to use him as the 4th OF, subbing for Jones and Drew.

There may very well be something brewing however, why do I keep thinking the player(s) aquired will be along the lines Mark DeRosa, Juan Pierre or and, not someone like A-Rod? Or in other words, someone who'll put up numbers similar to an Angel Pagan or Ryan Theriot but, at much higher cost.

A few Sox fans seem to think Rowand is the spark they're missing and want him back. I do like the kid's guts, but I wouldn't be pining to bring him here unless it was a real reasonable deal.

Count me in on expecting a big trade, getting all excited and then watching fatso give texas z to get Jerry hairston Jr back.

Expect the worst and hope for the best?
