The Rangers' chances of re-signing free agents Gary Matthews Jr. and Mark DeRosa seem to be getting slimmer. A person close to the situations said the San Francisco Giants are going to make a major push to sign Matthews, and DeRosa may be the leading candidate to play second base for the Chicago Cubs.

Ugh. I'd rather play Theriot.

Addendum: Texas picks up players off the scrap heap and they perform well (Gary Matthews Jr., Mark DeRosa, David Dellucci) in the American League's best hitters park. Why in the hell should the Cubs want any of them, other than to be 'ok' backups.

He had a higher OPS last year away from home. Not saying I want to sign him, but his season wasn't a total product of Texas' stadium

i'd love to have derosa as a backup.

and if i had to choose between derosa and izturis starting in the infield, i'd love to have derosa as a starter.

While I wouldn't really want Derosa as my secondbaseman, signing him may not be a bad idea. If Izturis sucks or gets hurt (likely) Derosa could slide over to SS.

Derosa is a versatile player that actually plays well enough to make his versatility worthwhile.

Theriot for starting SS in 2007.
