Ok what would JH say when we ask him. . "Why did you let guys like Matsuzaka, Schmidt, Soriano, and Carlos Lee pass you buy, but instead re-signed Neifi Perez for 3yr/30mil and Suppan to 5yr/50mil?"

Obviously, we wanted to get some guys with postseason experience, and some guys that will do a lot of things for our ballclub. Neifi brings a lot to the table. Obviously he's familiar with the organization, he can do a lot of different things for us, he's a leader, and a very solid player. We know he can handle 3B and give us some solid defense over there. Suppan, obviously, is, um, a champion, he will eat innings...um, we were looking for someone who would take the ball every fifth day, obviously we need some stability in the rotation, and he throws a real nice sinker, and will realy slot in nicely in our rotation.

If the Cubs don't win it all by 2008, I'm done for good with everything.

I don't need any more losing causes in my life.

This is an interesting statement. I've always been a cubs fan, but I wonder if they can drive me away for good. This year was the first year I gave up and didn't feel guilty...nor did I attend one game and I live in Chicago. I wonder if the 100 year mark will force people away because that's just embarassing.

On a scale from 9 to 10, 10 being super dumb, 1 being not dumb at all, how dumb are you?

Obviously, I've made some mistakes, we all have, but the important thing is to work from here and get our ballclub to where we need to be. I think that dumb, smart, everyone in this game makes mistakes, and obviously things, um, haven't gone our way for whatever reason the last couple years, but, um, I think that we've got Lou in here, you know, a proven winner, and we're gonna look at some guys that can come in, and, you know, hopefully get us to where we need to be, but to, you kniow, um, put a number on dumb, is obviously very difficult because every GM has those years where nothing goes right, and then the next day, you know, you're making the kinds of deals we made for Derrek Lee and for, you know, Aramis, so I don't know that I'd put number on it right now, but obviously we all need to be better, and that includes me.

WTF is wrong with you, Jim?

Well, obviously if you look at the results on the field, you can say there's been something wrong with the job I've done the last 3 seasons. It's, you know, my job to make sure this team is competitive, and competes, and, um, obviously I haven't done that. Did I listen too much to outside influences? Probably. Did I make some poor decisions, well, yeah, but we had some terrible luck. I don't know, you know, how many teams could lose their #1 and 2 starters, and their all-star 1B and still, um, be competitive, and obviously we had a rough year. I know it, the players know it, but as far as something being wrong with me, well, you know, you can look at a lot of things, and I'm sure that there are a lot of things wrong, but I'm confident that going forward I'm going to make decisions that are in the best interest of the Chicago Cubs.

How many more years of suckage will we have to endure? I'd just like to know up front so I can prepare.
