There's no way I would pay Bonds $14 million in the NL. The AL is the perfect place for him so he can DH and stay healthy. By the way, I have trouble believing there's any collusion against Bonds when we're discussing $14 million per year.

If it's the same kind of distraction that took the Giants to the postseason four times between 97 and '03, I'll take it...

Bonds is not the same player who took those giants to the postseason 4 times between 1997 and 2003.

i laugh when i readsome of this...it all depends on what bonds would cost. 6-8 mil maybe more...not so much over 12...no thanks we simply can't rick it.

with aram gone...exactly who could we possibly win a bid on?

jim's big splashes the last 2 years...burnitz and jones...i don't feel very confident we can get soriano.

you really think sammy was run out of town because he was a cheat? if he could still drop 50+ he still be here!

as far as not having steroid guys...umm most people lump guys like: nomar, jobo, wood and even prior into the catagory. i mean out of no where tendons start falling off of nomar...that's not typical.

finally...did you guys check out our left field combo this year? murton and mabry!

i think i take a chance on bonds/murton for year.

According to this, Bonds is drawing some interest and his price may be above what I think the Cubs should pay.

One Giants employee said Bonds told him he wants $14 million for 2007, which sounds way out of line with what the team has suggested it will pay.

The Orioles and Rangers could have interest.

An American League team is on record saying it might look into Bonds. Jim Duquette, the Orioles' vice president of baseball operations, told the Boston Globe his team would have to "seriously consider" Bonds because "we could surely use a power bat.

"Obviously, there are many factors we'd have to consider, including contract. But I would think if Barry were out there, there would be other American League teams interested, considering what he could do as a DH, preserving his body, and the fact you'd be getting a player who is about to break the home run record."

Jim Duquette sounds like Jim Hendry.

If Bonds broke Aaron's record en route to leading the Cubs to the playoffs, I'd be all for it.

at this point, if bonds can take us to the playoffs, he can burn an american flag while doing it for all i care.

No. I don't want to get off topic, but thats way wrong.

It was just a bit of obvious hyperbole.

Possibly, but I feel--and maybe I am sensitive--but if we can't swear on here, and have to delete other offensive things, then this also should go. Its more offensive to me than any "swear word."

Again, I don't want to hijack, I just had to put in my two cents about that comment.

And it may be offensive to some, but I think it's different than a swear word. Limiting swear words is in effect a way to keep this a "family friendly" environment. While most may be against "flag burning", I don't think we shouldn't be allowed to say it. It's not my site, but that's my two cents.

But back to point, if Bonds comes cheaper than 10 million, I'd take him even if changed his name to Saddam!

From the latest ESPN insider, Bonds' agent is discussing other teams' interest in the slugger.

Bonds' agent told the San Jose Mercury News on Wednesday that he has spoken to several teams about Bonds. Although he wouldn't name the clubs, agent Jeff Borris said at least one team was from the National League, and it wasn't the Giants.

"Teams are interested in him," Borris said.

According to the Mercury News, sources expect the market for Bonds to develop slowly. Two AL teams, for instance, could revisit Bonds as an option if other offseason plans fail.

Bonds, 42, is 22 home runs short of Hank Aaron's all-time major-league record of 755.

I'm going to change the title of the thread to reflect a slight change in what's happening.

ray ratto of the SF Chronicle is on "the beat with charlie steiner" on XM right now, he is speculating that the only teams that will offer to Bonds are the giants and the angels(and he said angels only if they cant resign frank thomas)....

edit, he said that he expects bonds to be a giant with a 3 mill + incentives

How can the Angels re-sign Thomas? They never had him.

Do you mean the A's? Or do you mean that the Angels will sign Bonds if they can't sign Thomas?

Not trying to be a smart ass, just tryin to clear it up.

I was more referring to the average A's fan, not the die hards. That's just been my impression of the East Bay and my friends down here from that area.

There are a lot of people who are fans of both teams. I do agree with this statement. Remember that Bonds hit one of the milestone HR's this year - not sure if it was tying or passing Ruth - in Oakland and got a good ovation.
