From Alou's standpoint, why take a part-time role in the NL when he could easily get a full-time DH gig? DHing would also greatly increase his chance of staying healthy. If you were trying to sell Alou on the idea of joining the Cubs as a part-timer, how would you pitch the idea so as to make it sound compelling and reasonable? It seems impossible to me.

Assume that the Cubs will face a LH in 65 games next season. If all of those starts went to Alou, he'd take 35 starts from Murton to get to 100 games started.

38% of games against a lefty starter? That seems awfully high. I would think that we'd face a lefty every 5 or 6 days, or 30-40 times total per year.

When I was trying to find out how much a Jones/Alou platoon would put up, I found that the Cubs faced about 2 RH for every LH, which is pretty close to 38%. I was surprised it was that high too.

I'm digging a Frank Stallone aquisition.

I've wanted him for years.

He's the perfect scapegoat for everything.

"The Cubs just blew a 6 run lead in the bottom of the 9th and have lost the WC spot! WHAT HAPPENED?!?"

[norm mcdonald]"Yep, you guessed it...Frank Stallone."[/norm mcdonald]

That was largely a function of the pitchers in the division. Most of the teams we face 17 times a year are stacked with lefties.

You know, just looking at the pictures, reminds me of just how good the pitching that has come through the Cubs farm system. And I cringe to think where we'd be if we didn't foolishly trade some of them, abuse some of them. . Just some of the great pitchers that have come out of the Cubs system. Imagine if you had your pick out of a healthy bunch of these. . .

Zambrano, Hill, Willis, Garland, Wood, Prior, Nolasco. . . next year instead of just having Zambrano and Hill and having to build around only them. .
