Does anyone know who sang the opening at Game 1? I had about 3 people tell me that it was the splitting image of me, just 10-15 years older.

 

Ya, he did. He looked just like this:

Funny, but backwards. The dude singing looked 10-15 years older than me.

 

I'm almost positive it was Bob Seger, age 61.

 

Thanks. I wonder who looks good for their age, because I'm 18 years younger than Seger.

That's too bad - a pretty good version of the Star Spangled Banner came out of the last time Stl played a WS game at Det, 38 years ago:

that's a beautiful rendition...doesn't surprise me at all that people were in an uproar about it though.

 

I agree - it's a beautiful rendition and at the time I think the uproar naturally fell along political lines (loved by left, reviled by right). One fan was quoted the next day in the NY Times as saying "I'm young enough to understand it, but I think it stunk. ... It was non-patriotic."

 

It actually hit the top 50 on the US charts a few weeks later -- first time a version of the national anthem ever charted.

I could listen to Anita Baker do the National Anthem all day long. Wow, what a voice!
