Mexican Winter League

The Mexican Pacific (Winter) League is getting started today. Oneri said that Les Walrond and Casey McGehee are going to be playing in Mexico this winter, but I have yet to find them on any roster.

Les Walrond turns up on the roster of Hermosillo. He started the opener:

5 IP, 1 ER, 3 R, 5 H, 5 K/3 BB, 1 HBP

Still can't find Casey McGehee.

And Casey McGehee has turned up on the Tomateros de Culiacan. They lost their opener to Mazatlan tonight, 10-5. Casey started at third base and batted 6th: box score.

There's no real hurry. Not that it would be that great of a loss, but someone might claim Walrond. It's probably better to wait until right before the Rule 5 draft that way a lot of other teams will be trying to clear roster space.

Steve Smyth (yes, that Steve Smyth) started for Culiacan: 5+ IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 6 K/5 BB. He had a shutout through 5.

Hugo Castellanos (5 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 2 K/0 BB) started for Mazatlan. Hugo played the last few weeks of the season in the Cubs system.

Am I the only one who thinks Hendry believes that Walrond will replace Rusch on the roster, should Glendon is forced to reitred? Or am I the only one with that fear?

Just because Les is still on the 40-man on October 15th doesn't mean he will be in December. I'm not yet concerned.
