I don't see much value in this. Zim is a cartoon. I can't see him helping Girardi at all at this point. I could see Torre being of help, given his relationship with Joe and managerial experience. Maybe he'd want to relax for a year watching from afar while collecting his $7m from George. But Zim? No thanks. The Cubs don't need managers making gut decisions and hoping it works out. They need to focus on getting better players and putting them in the best possible situation to succeed.

What value could Don Zimmer possibly provide?

Pursuing that would be a negligent waste of time by Hendry. I wouldn't find it interesting, entertaining, valuable, cute, honorable, or anything other than stupid and unnecessary.

Now that would be funny. Joe Torre as his understudy's bench coach.

the nostalgia factor. maybe jerome walton can come back and hit in 30 straight games and the cubs will come out of nowhere to win the division. i wonder if we could get wild thing to quit his pin-monkey job in west texas.

Let's say for the sake of argument, Joe Girardi is "hired" to be the manager of the Cubs. Does anybody know how his staff will look like? I know Rick Kranitz is a giving for pitching coach (and would be kind of a slap at Hendry who wants to keep Rothschild). But who else?

I know Mike Quade, Alan Dunn, Pat Listach, and perhaps guys like Von Joshua will be giving opportunities for openings on Girardi's staff, but do we even have a sniff of a posible Girardi staff?

No clue really. But I wouldn't be surprised if there was a shakeup in the Yankees coaching staff, and Joe targeted some of those guys.

Kranitz might not even be a given since he's entertaining an offer from Fredi Gonzalez and the Marlins.

Kranitz would be absolutely the best part of having Girardi come to the Cubs.

In terms of other names, Jim Presley was Girardi's hitting coach last year.

Another reason to speed up the selection process, jim
