According to ESPN, he's been told by Doug Melvin that he is likely to be moved. Might make a nice platoon partner for Murt in LF, no? Who might the Brew Crew want in return? If we could acquire some pop for the MIF and in CF, might this work? Just a thought.

If you are going to commit to Matt Murton in left next year, then commit to him...and let's not play the platoon game.

Murton hits well enough against righties to where platooning shouldn't really be considered. Either he's good enough to be in left or he isn't. I don't like the idea of holding him back and possibly retarding his development by allowing him only 200 or so at-bats as part of a platoon.

Jenkins is too injury prone to be an option. He's had 3 relatively healthy years, but with as jinxed as we are, I'm sure he'll be on the DL quite a bit with us.

Not my first choice, or even my second. I'm with goony on this one.

Why does Murton need a platoon? I kinda like Jenkins. I expected big things from him after a huge 2nd half in 2005, where he had an OPS of over 1.0 after June. He didn't do much, and has a large salary and injury history to go along with him. I'd hope the Cubs can get a better bat than Jenkins.

Jenkins is a slightly better/ more injury prone version of Jacque Jones, IMO. We can do better.

If he was righty, he'd be the perfect platoon partner with Jones. Too bad he's not.

i wonder if the crew would do:

jones

dempster

for

jenkins

clark

that would be a trade that would make sense. the brewers might want some cash, though.

I dunno - is he that much an upgrade in RF over Jones? I know you love Clark. I guess I like him, but not that much.

i think jenkins and jones are a push defensively. jenkins is much more patient and delivers slightly more pop, but is more expensive.

if we didn't have to include any cash, as the the salaries are close to even, it would be a good way to get clear a bullpen spot by getting rid of dempster while upgrading our OBP in RF and CF.

It also makes it a little more likely that the manager would be willing to sit Jenkins, since you have the built-in excuse of keeping him fresh and healthy.

just looking at the defensive metrics, as flawed as they are, jones appears to be slightly better.

Going by John Dewan's Fielding Bible(this is the part where CardsfaninChitown shows up to back me up on how good it is ), Jones is one of the worst defensive RF's in the game, and Jenkins has been pretty above average in the time he's spent in RF.

i'll take your word for it. all the more reason to make the trade.

i'd also take gabe gross.
