I'd prefer him to replace Hendry.

More interesting from that article is this:

Cubs G.M. Jim Hendry is leaning toward bringing back pitching coach Larry Rothschild

Why, Jim, why?

Maybe as team president..no to Dombrowski as a GM.

I mean, he one-upped Hendry just two months ago. At least when Hendry signed Neifi, he didn't have to give up anything. Dombrowski traded for him, took on his contract, and gave a decent prospect in return. He also gave 105 million to Magglio Ordonez, a contract which will continue to haunt the Tigers (even if they do go all the way this year it won't be because of Ordonez (although it won't be despite him either)-Magglio has been marginally better than Jacque Jones this year). If you are going to go out and get an outside guy, you could do a lot better than Dombrowski.

The sentiment seems to be that Dusty would not let Larry have free reign over the pitching staff, and overruled many of Larry's decisions, and many times Larry was proved right.

so the GM tells the new manager, "skip, you can hire your choice of coaches. . . . except for the ones that I don't want you to hire or the ones I don't want you to replace."

He did it with Dusty. I don't see why he wouldn't with a new manager.

Can anyone point to a GM that hasn't made some dumb and stupid mistakes? Please, anyone? Even the great Billy Beane or Pat Gillick has to have some skeletons in THIS closet, huh?

Again, I'll say that Jim H should be fired, but he's acquired a good share of decent players for us. Dombrowski couldn't possibly be any worse, and at least he had the guts to sign Maggs and Pudge...two players the Cubs could have acquired...cost or not...

I remember people arguing on here three years ago that Pudge was overrated and over the hill...he's still playing isn't he?

I don't care about the skeletons, nor do I care about the good share of decent players. I care about the abysmal record and 20th century mindset.

Pudge is a shell of his former self. He posted a 290 OBP last year and only improved slightly this year. I'll take Barrett over Pudge any day of the week offensively, which is where we have problems.

Maggs. I guess you could make an argument for him, but he wasn't a very good investment regardless. Having the guts to do something and having that be the right move are far different things. Dombrowski -- in my eyes at least -- has been below average in his tenure as GM of the Tigers.

Would I mind him being president? Probably not, but he's not a good GM choice in my opinion.

If Drombrowski was the GM we would have a better minor league system. I am not so sure about his major league moves but he is a builder of good minor league systems. Has he ever had a large payroll except for that one year in Florida?

how much of the good minor league system is on him, and how much of it is on the people that scout/draft for him?

How about this guy.

He is a little out there, rebelious. Gutsy. Takes Risks.

Your thoughts?

Sulleymon might go for that.
