Perfectly fine with me, but when they get sold before the season begins I will make a point of calling you out for not beleiveing and you can do the same in return if they are still part of the Tribune by opening day 2007.

Why call him out? Because he chooses not to believe an anonymous post on a message board?

As I said earlier, you may or may not know this person. We don't know you nor have we any other form of relationship nor do we have a posting history to judge the veracity of your claim.

Now, if I knew you in a personal way, and knew you as a trustworthy person, that would lend credence to your claims.

If you had a long history of posting here and either you had provided inside information or had a history of productively contributing to this community, we might find you more believable.

But, as it is, none of those apply. It's not that we're saying your lying, it's just other than your word...and we don't know who you are....we have little to back up your claim.

If you're right, great. Thanks for sharing. But I don't see why you get offended that we question you.

Now, if you want to provide some facts that would back who you are and who your source is, then we might find even more reason to believe you. (I can fully understand why you wouldn't want to do that)....but since right now you are a new, anonymous poster...you could be telling the truth, or you could be a juvenile seeking attention.Right now, it's more prudent to be skeptical.

mjuedes, I'm sorry you've had to take a ripping.

Whether you're right or wrong shouldn't take away from having a good conversation about the possibility of the Cubs being sold.

Welcome to the boards and I hope your stay is a long one.

Here Here (or is it Hear Hear!?!). The discussion of the cubs being sold is a good one. And I'll have at it any day!

maybe it's "hear, here"

The thought of the Cubs being sold seems like a good one, but we all know the pendulum swings both ways. We could get a group (or individual) worse than the trib. . . . .

But I'm a 15 year old girl with big boobs looking to experiment.

What are you wearing?

Mr. Foley, leave me alone.

Hahahaha. Nice one Goony and CubinNY. In relation to the thread, it is hard to tell if this is true or not. Granted, we know there's been speculation about the sale of the Cubs, but I don't know how how reputable the source is. Nothing against you, mjuedes, but we here at NSBB have seen our fair share of people lying or giving out misinformation on the board.

On a nice note, welcome to the board mjuedes!

Are we talking top 5 management or top 5 board of directors?

management, he's on there alright, which one is still a mystery

Juedes, you're really losing here, but I believe you

Thanks King, I think you know who my source is and know that I am not **** here, that this is legit.

I think the Cubs being sold is more possible now than it's been since the last sale of the Cubs.

I'm still not sure how to quantify that, though.

I think Cuban is the #1 canidate for Cubs owner should they be put up for sale. He has already went on record and said he would pay "any price", and the risk/reward of buying the Cubs from a financial standpoint is intriguing enough for him to go all out.

That being said, the cubs will still be owned by the Tribune come the beginning of the 2007 spring training so none of this has much of an affect over this offseason, although they could be put up for sale in the near future, which would bode well for the 2007 offseason and beyond.

We've been speculating on this at Goat Riders from the moment that McDonough took over.

First, we believe that the sale is going to happen. That means that 2007 is, in all likelihood, a bust.

McDonough said today that the team will maintain a payroll at around 100 million, but we'll see how that plays out. Quite frankly, the Cubs should probably have a payroll in the 110 or 115 range, but that's neither here nor there.

The next way to gauge if a sale is looming is by how long the next manager signs on for. Likewise, if McDonough's position is no longer "interim," - as we already suspect - then that means the Cubs aren't (or cannot be) actively seeking someone who could actually DO the job.

If Chuck is right and MacPhail actually resigned back in August - to the ignorance of the entire front office, oddly enough - then it doesn't make sense how even McDonough didn't seem prepared to discuss his new role. Maybe he didn't know either. Regardless, the Trib should've had time to seek a long-term replacement. That they didn't also lends credence to the possibility of a sale.

Lots of stuff to consider. I'll write an article about this at Goat Riders later today...

This whole thing reaks of the McCaskey/McGinnis/Phillips/Jauron/Hatley fiasco. The potential for ownership change justs adds to the drama. MacPhail plays the role of the privileged son brushed aside, McDonough plays the worked his way up but doesn't get much respect guy. I wonder who will be McGinnis, the up-and-comer who might have taken the job but shied away because of the unprofessionalism. Will Brenly be Jauron? Hired by Hendry, then stays on after a new GM is brought in in 2008?

2007 could be a lost directionless season, but I could see some short term flukish success as well, which might just muddy the waters as the powers that be try to change things.

Just taking a moment to tell the folks over at Goatriders that I appreciate the insight and humor over there.. It (almost) makes a losing season bearable!

Thank you, sir. We always appreciate the complients (and criticisms).

What you may not know is that Goat Riders originated here on this board. I can't precisely remember when - sometime in mid October, 2004 - but I posted in a thread that a great idea for a website would be something like http://www.goatridersoftheapocalypse.com ... before long it took off.

So, it's possible that were it not for the folks of NSBB, I may never have created the site.

I wanted to add that we also came up with a couple of other ideas based on the postings of some of the residents of this site.

Two years ago, we had a 120-win Zambran-o-Meter. This past year we modified it a bit:

Once the team tanked, it turned into this:

Please don't swear at NSBB.

The way this new guy is going he'll be gone from here before the Trib even has a chance to sell a newspaper let alone the Cubs.

Ditto. With most of the major Cubs blogs having gotten WAY too full of themselves and more concerned with fighting with each other, it's great to see a funny and quality blog floating to the top.

No kidding...fine, people don't believe it, he's just making a statement on a message board for god sakes. No one can prove one way or another if he's right or wrong so who cares! The idea itself is fun to talk about though, why can't we stick to that?

Then let's drop it. You know he was the one who kept responding with new reasons why to trust him. Which basically is the psychology of someone seeking attention. Anyway I had already moved on in a positive way as we all did until you posted this. Your timing just irked me. So let's move on already, and stop talking about it.
