Was just fired reported by WGN radio

This early? They aren't wasting time are they...

Well, technically they wasted all day Monday, and could have had it done by Sunday night (let alone months ago, when they apparantly made the decision).

Girardi was put on this earth to manage the Cubs.

No nonsense. Perform. A freakin dictator. That is what I want.

If Hendry doesn't hire him it is because he is a coward and afraid

Girardi won't kiss his feet and bow to him.

Hendry might not hire him because there are better candidates. While I'd prefer Girardi to some candidates, he hasn't done much to distinguish himself in my opinion.

A control freak is not a good thing. What has Buck Showalter won?

Bobby Cox is a control freak too, but unlike Buck its just never been attatched to him as a negative modus operandi because he's always won.

Cox isn't a control freak in the same mode as Showalter. Cox does lay down the rules, but he isn't nearly as restrictive as Showalter. One year isn't enough to determine at what level Girardi falls on the spectrum, but early returns aren't encouraging.

That's what i hear from them, I haven't watched enough Fish games to know that to be true or not, and I don't know how that would go on a team with a deep bullpen like the Cubs, but I have to think it would be better with our pen than theirs.

I'm curious as to what he'd do with an older rotation and more talented bullpen, in that case.

When the Marlins played the Cubs in April, wasn't part of the story that Florida didn't have any lefties in their bullpen at that time?

The media is making it seem like Gonzalez to Florida is a done deal. If he's off the list, I think Girardi would be my top choice considering the other names floating around.

Are there any other realistic options that would be better? By realistic, remember that Hendry is doing the hiring.

Didn't hendry really like Freddi? Why is his name not up at all for consideration?

I think the Marlins know this and acted quickly to get their man.

Or maybe Fredi preferred the Marlins over the Cubs. Who knows?

Quite posible cc. I want somebody that can handle the pressure of being a Cub manager and if that makes Gonzalez nervous, not that I know if it does, I don't want him.

Since Hendry has already interviewed Freddi once couldnt he just call and offer him the job if he wanted? I really would have like to see us hire him, I think he'd be great. Seems like if he had the choice between the Marlins and the Cubs... well I suppose there are good arguments to why he would want either. The Marlins certainly have a wealth of young talent, but the Cubs job would pay a great deal more. He may find there is alot less pressure to succede in FL though and the talent pool is head and shoulders above what we have currently.

btw the Marlins havent hired Freddi yet so until I see a link I will assume he is still availible, to many people here assuming its a done deal. keep the hope alive! lol

Joe Frisaro / MLB.com[/url]"]

Braves third-base coach Fredi Gonzalez, who interviewed for the Marlins job last year, is expected to be named Girardi's replacement during a 2 p.m. ET press conference.

Why couldn't the Marlins have been all over Piniella instead? :(

Yeah right! With what money?

The money the gained from dumping Miguel Cabrera's soon-to-be more expensive contract on the Cubs? :)

Not official by any means, but when MLB.com thinks Freddi is going to be a Marlin, I don't have much hope:

EDIT: Serena is fast.

Furthermore, Gonzalez was a coach in the Marlins' system, so he may feel more comfortable there.

With Gonzalez off the list, and I'm expecting Davey Johnson to be hired in Washington, that leaves on Dierker on my preferred list.

I have a feeling I'm not going to be pleased with the Cubs' new manager.

Has Dierker ever been mentioned? I mean by someone not named Vance.

He hasn't and that fact alone makes me question what goes on in the Cubs FO.
