Watching Fox baseball they had a segment called "inside pitch" with Rosenthal, and he mentioned the Marlins will entertain trading D-Train this offseason if they can get a top positional player, like Carl Crawford or Jeff Francour. If they do indeed shop him, hopefully we at least offer Pie and a decent pitching prospect. I've got to admit though, a deal revolving around Carl Crawford should be intriguing to Florida if they do indeed want to trade Willis.

No offense, but if Rosenthal said "top positional player, like Carl Crawford or Jeff Francoer" how do you translate that to an offer of Pie and a pitching prospect?

You shouls ammend it to say hopefully Hendry will offer Pie and a pitching prospect so Flordia can laugh at us.

If they are looking for players like Crawford or Francoer for Willis, that means they are looking for young players with established success in the majors in an exchange for Willis.

The Cubs might could package Murton for him, but I doubt Murton has that much value.

Well, you know the natural homer in me wants us to go after him, so I thought if they they're looking at a toolsy CF'er like Crawford, maybe we could assemble a package involving a player who projects to be similar to Crawford who will be on a very small contract for a long time. I naturally assumed they'd be interested in a pitching prospect since they are actually trading their main pitcher, so it certainly couldn't hurt. I'm not saying the Marlins would do this, but if a pitcher (who albeit is a little overrated, but still very good) like Dontrelle is available, we better at least give them a call and see how high they are on certain players of ours, rather than sit on our ass.

If I am Tampa Bay, no way do I trade Crawford for Dontrelle. Willis is a solid #2 or 3, not worth giving up a young all-star caliber outfielder.

If I am Atlanta, however, I would pull the trigger immediately. Francour (The anti-Dunn) is just as overrated as Dontrelle, and the Braves could use the pitching.

We could REALLY use Willis. He's durable, at times he's electric, he's young, and he'd be an awesome complement to Zambrano. With our offense in shambles, and likely to get even worse if Ramirez does in fact leave, the only shred of hope for the Cubs is to get that starting rotation built back up to strength again.

I would offer Florida ANY one of our minor leaguers (including Pie), and ANY one of Theriot, Cedeno, or the young pitchers other than Hill, and see if they bite. If it gets them interested, but not ready to bite, I might consider a third prospect of their choice as well. But no Murton, no Hill, we're going to need them.

I think Willis is due for a breakdown in the near future, especially given his mechanics.

Something tells me the Marlins are going to want some team to throw everything including the kitchen sink at them in order to pick up Willis. Heck, look at the package they got for Beckett. I'd imagine they'll ask for more with Willis.

I agree. I smell a fleecing and then an injury. Never have been sold on Willis, especially after he crapped up the WBC.

No more trades with florida plz. Trades w/fl is how they got our Dontrelle to begin with. I might consider loosing more prospects if he wasn't ours to begin with.

If Florida wants to move Willis, I could really see Texas getting in on it like they tried with Beckett. I could see a deal that would be Blalock+ one of the DVD boys + another prospect, possibly Mayberry.

agreed, i don't see anything that we could offer that would intrigue florida. they asked for david wright before this season.

Choi for Lee didn't work out too badly.

Lee wasn't ours to begin with. If we want to trade with Florida. Target Cabrera or nothing. . I just don't like the taste of giving up mitre, nolasco, pinto, and probably Pie and 2 more top pitching prospects. For Willis (since pierre was only a 1 year rental and a bad one at that). ., when the man was OURS to begin with.
