SAN FRANCISCO -- Two San Francisco Chronicle reporters were ordered jailed Thursday for a maximum of 18 months, pending an appeal, for refusing to testify about who leaked them secret grand jury testimony from Barry Bonds and other elite athletes.

Didn't see this posted. Barry is only like 24 homers away from Aaron. One more?

umm... They're not being jailed because of the steroids. They're being jailed for contempt of court, because they refuse to say who illegally leaked grand jury testimony to them. They are, in effect, committing a crime.

Well played

Someone here used to have a great sig that was a photo of Barry looking up and apparently pointing at a large Photoshopped asterisk hovering over his head ... loved that sig.

They also may be protected by the Shield Law. I'll be interested to see what the 9th Circuit has to say.

It was a federal grand jury. There is no federal shield law.

I believe it is being appealed though. I, too, will be interested to see what happens the next rung up.

The judge's ruling to jail them is being appealed, not the finding that put them there.

On a separate note, Bonds supposeldy lied on the stand. He said that he didn't know he was taking steroids. Well then why isn't he suing the guy who gave him them? If Bonds is consistent, he shoudl do this. But he knows he can't. That would blow up in his face and would further prove his guilt.
