Did he progress? .271/.310/.425

His numbers are up from last year, but they were bound to be based on how rough he had it last season.

Many criticized the Cubs for not developing him properly, teaching patience, etc. If Baltimore is teaching it, it hasn't clicked yet.

Just curious what some thoughts are about him. What will he become? Or have we already seen it?

someone post the stats of the 2 garbage minor league players Hendry got for him.

I'm not trying to evaluate the trade, just Corey the baseball player.

In Jim Hendry terms, Corey really progressed. He was "clutch." Got the big hit. Scored runs with his glove. Corey had an overall pretty good year, for where he was the last few years.

In terms of his projections, Corey's nowhere near where he should be, but he's a very serviceable CFer now. He'd get signed to a multi-year deal, about the $7-9mil range, if he can repeat this season. I think he's going to be fine, overall.

I don't even remember who we got for him... who was it?

Nate Spears, who last I checked had a sub-.700 OPS and some pitcher who didn't project to be a good prospect anyway.

Probably in the C range by OBP/SLG alone, but with his great steal success rate and totals, I'd bump him up to a high C or low B.

I think he's going to improve a bit on this year and be a 800 OPS guy with great speed and defense in his prime, which isn't terrific, but it's definitely serviceable.

Who would pay him $7-$9 million a year? Other than Hendry?

If he has another year like this one, he'll be as serviceable as Juan Pierre, and be able to get the same type of money. He won't get 12-16, which would be for top level CFs, which he's not. He provides a little SLG from a non-traditional SLG position, and his CF defense is pretty good. I'm not saying he *should* get that. But that he likely will.

I give him a D+, maybe a C-. A .310 OBP is horrible. He's still too much of a free swinger, he's still got most of the bad habits that he had before. I don't give him any extra credit just because he fell so far below the mendoza line last year.

I consider Corey's 2005 a fluke (2003 was a fluke on the opposite end of the spectrum). He's not as bad as 2005 indicated, and shouldn't get credit for improving upon it. His numbers this year are more inline with 2004 and I think are more inline with what could reasonably be expected of him. The only area he seems to have improved upon this year are his strike outs, which are down to acceptable numbers. I think that's why his batting average is up as well. Since his walks are still atrocious, I don't think it's a matter of him using more patience. Either he's seeing the ball better than before and hence, making more contact, or it's a fluke. If his Ks go back up again next year, that will mean this year was a fluke. Time will tell.
