3.0 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K today, 55 pitches. Was removed on a set pitch count.

There's not a lot of time for him to get his endurance back, but if he can be an effective 6 inning pitcher for them in the playoffs, it is a big boost. With Zito, Haren, Harden, Blanton/Loaiza (both of whom have been very solid since the ASB), they have a pretty deep rotation for the playoffs. They have the third-best staff ERA since the ASB, and the bullpen is strong with Gaudin, Kennedy, Duchscherer and Calero setting the table for Street.

Their post-ASB OPS of .811 is third-best in baseball, and their team OBP of .365 after the ASB is tied for the best in baseball with the Yankees - showing that they've overcome their offensive struggles of the first half. Everyone is talking about the Twins because of their second-half surge, the Tigers because of the young pitching and the strong record, and the Yankees because they're the Yankees, but the A's are no slouch either. They may surprise people, especially in the opening playoff series.

I would love nothing more than to see the A's win the World Series. They have always been my American League team but they always seem to choke in the postseason. Hopefully this year will be different (assuming they get there and don't lay an egg against the Angels in this last week and a half and miss the playoffs).

bobby crosby's not going to be working in the playoffs, i guess he's done now.

not that he's really any good, it just seems like he might be a better option than marco

that don't deserve a WS.

OAKLAND -- The third deck at McAfee Coliseum, traditionally packed when the Yankees visit the A's, will be empty when the Bronx Bombers roll into town for the 2006 season opener Monday, April 3.

It'll be empty for the second and third games of the three-game series, too -- and for the 78 home dates that follow. Along with announcing their schedule for the upcoming season, the A's announced that they're closing the third deck, thus reducing the listed baseball capacity of the multi-use stadium the club shares with the NFL's Raiders from 44,073 to 34,179.

Pretty pathetic for a team that has won 90+ games 5 of the last 6 seasons

with a 102 and 103 win season in there

Oakland has 400,000 people, we don't need a stadium that holds 65,000 people.

The A's also wanted to get more advance sales so they could plan better, in the past, people knew they could walk up and get good seats, so that's what they did.

Your reduced 35,000 seat stadium still has around 10 thousand

empty seats every game. For a team in the pennant race.

Spin it any way you want....that is pathetic.

I guess that's the only thing you can still hold onto. Wow, the Cubs get a lot of people to fill their park and boo their horrible team. Meanwhile, I get to sit behind home plate and watch the A's win another division title. The crowds in Oakland have a ton of energy, they are all into the game, and the food is much better than Wrigley. It's a lot of fun. Plus, the fans are much less bitter.

cardinals fans must be pathetic too since they reduced their seating capacity. this is one of the silliest arguments I've ever seen. I hope the A's don't win so that the people that don't care about the team don't celebrate? that makes no sense.

ALDS tickets go on sale Monday at 9 AM if either of you wants to go. Unfortunately for me I will be out of town until that Saturday (the two home games will be Friday and Saturday) so I can't go.

I'm going. I'm going to the game tomorrow also. Hopefully they win tonight, so they can clinch tomorrow.

I wish I could go but there is no way I can get Friday or Saturday off. It's just not possible. If by chance the A's advance to the ALCS (only saying by chance because I don't want to jinx it) we'll see what days the games are. I would love to go to a playoff game if somebody had extra tickets.

I remember a another thread on this board were the majority consenses

was that Marlins fans were underserving the world series championships

becuase of the low fan support.

Both Marlins and A's fan bases suck.

Since 1999...

Oakland attendance (AL rank):

1999: 12th of 14

2000: 11th of 14

2001: 7th of 14

2002: 8th of 14

2003: 6th of 14

2004: 7th of 14

2005: 8th of 14

2006 (pace) 11th of 14

Marlins attendance (NL Rank):

1999: 15th of 16

2000: 15th of 16

2001: 15th of 16

2002: 15th of 16

2003: 15th of 16

2004: 14th of 16

2005: 15th of 16

2006 (pace) 16th of 16 and lowest attendance in baseball by over 2,000 per game

Oakland's attendance has slumped this season, but in general since they got good, they've been in the middle of the AL pack. The Marlins are consistently among the worst-supported teams in baseball. For Oakland to average near the middle of the pack is not indicative of an apathetic fan base, considering that they're in a modest-sized market and share that market with another team.

A's win the division and Rich Harden pitches 5 shutout innings. Boy that Billy Beane sure is overrated, only 8 winning seasons in a row (6 90-win seasons) and five playoff appearances in that time, with a payroll that's always in the bottom third of the American League.
