"Jacque took heat even before he really got on the field," manager Dusty Baker said, referring to criticism of Jones' three-year contract. "Jacque has had a good year, and Jacque knows he can get better. I talked to [him on Tuesday] and he said, `Man, I gave away over 100 at-bats.' He wants to cut down on the strikeouts (112). He has played an outstanding right field. Right field in Wrigley Field is about as tough as it gets."

What the hell is Dusty talking about?!?!?!?!

He's a raving lunatic. I wish nothing but the worst to him.

Baseball career wise correct? Because this is just a game.

Just a game? I wish I was that casual about baseball. Baseball = Life! Although my wife will disagree..

I understand what you're saying but after what has happened to Raush and Lee's little girl a little perspective is needed.

Indeed...very true

Another classic Dusty line. It never ceases to amaze me the stupidity that constantly flows around that toothpick. I honestly think he's delusional and needs mental help. Here's to him spending a lot of time babbling from the console of his boat far far away so we don't have to read this garbage.

I know Jacque's arm is bad, but has he really been so bad at catching the ball out there? I haven't seen enough games to know

Nope, he's been pretty decent out there. He's had his share of flat out missing some catchable ones, but his range has been solid.

I remember a few boneheadedp lays where he flat-out whiffed on fielding some simple grounders and thurned singles into doubles or worse, too.

He's had decent range, adequate glove, terrible arm.

All in all, he's not exactly a plus defensive player, but he's far from the worst in the league. Dusty is overplaying the job he's done in right, but he's no Phil Nevin in the outfield.

Agreed-I think he's been pretty good in RF other then some isolated plays that have made him look really silly. Jacque is at his best I think when he is going back-he has made some really nice plays up against the wall this year or plays where he has had to jump as he goes into the corner. With his awful accuracy on his arm though and those misplays, he's only been decent out there though. Dusty is definitely overstating this.

BTW, Dusty is not the only one who has said something like this. Len and Bob mentioned that he has had a pretty good defensive year in RF even with the terrible throws. They, of course, also based it on their assumption that RF in Wrigley is the hardest RF to play in the league, and that Jacque has done a good job of negotiating the elements for the most part out there. I'm not saying I completely agree with their opinion, but that's what they said.

I've seen too many of Jacque's throws spiked into the infield dirt 15 feet in front of him to consider him an excellent fielder. Adequate is the word I would use. He could be worse. His bat improved since his horrible start and he could certainly take a few more walks. But he'll never be known for his defense.

If you take out Jacque throwing the ball then yes, he has been adequate defensively in right field. But throwing the ball hard and accurately is part of playing defense. Factoring in throwing the ball, he has been average at best.
