Seriously with Moore's abiliity to play corner infield spots, (I'll wager he could

handle RF if necessary) Its time to say goodbye to John Maybe in 07.

Maybe is a nice guy, but has declined to one of the worst hitters in baseball.

He should not be on a MLB roster.

I wouldn't mind Moore as the LHed bat off the bench. My only concern is whether Moore would be better served getting AB's in AAA.

However, if Ramirez is extended, using him as a bat off the bench may be the best use of him.

The Cubs need some Moore, Scott

And Les Walrond.

Well played. Ryu kidding? I Juan Jim to Rusch Glendon out the door, and Mabry I'll buy tickets again. Howry we gonna compete? That's Rich. Ohman.

see, you could have misspelled believe and then played drunk!

I'd rather see him get ABs in the minors and we grandfather him in. If Ramirez doesn't opt out, it's still 3 years. You could bring him up in another year to spell ARam once in a while and be a bat off the bench the rest of the time, then when Rammy's contract is up, Moore is in.

However, if we re-negotiate with Ramirez and sign him long-term, just bring him up to be the bat off the bench and such.

Moore should be on the AAA highway that Theriot was on this year. He shouldn't be counted on to fill a very important position on a possible contending team. Sign a Matt Stairs type and it would be a better service to the goal of winning and to the goal of better development

I'd rather use Moore off the bench then sign another aged and overpriced veteran to man the role. Spend that money some where else that is more important.

Yep, we need a younger team.

The Cubs have one of the youngest teams in the league already. The fully healthy ideal projected pitching staffs are all 30 and under (Miller, Wood, Prior, Zambrano, Hill) and the only two everyday position players over 30 are Jones and Lee, who are both 31.

This is a very young team.

here here!

As for Mabry, a lot of people talk about guys giving up, or quitting on the manager, but in only general terms. When I see Mabry, I see a guy who has given up, or at least is giving as little effort as possible. His swings have looked atrocious. After a horrible start, he had a nice June and July, but he disappeared in August and is hitless in September. He's in danger of returning to a sub 600 OPS on the season, which is something that should be inexcusable from backup catchers and middle infielders, let alone corner men. And it's not like this season was completely unexpected, he was brutal last season and is 35. Hendry has to learn that players don't actually improve in their 30s, and that mediocre players often lay themselves out of the game by their mid-30s. Just stay away from guys like that. If you want vets for your bench, find some 31-32 year olds with gas in the tank and a chance at producing if they need to fill-in for the starter. Otherwise, introduce more 23-26 year old decent minor leaguers to the roster and give them a chance to show something. At the very least, those guys provide upside. And there's no way they provide any further downside than guys like Macias, Perez and Mabry.

I thought Mabry was playing hurt of late?

Me too - and no well-trod Wood-en puns makes it more impressive.

It's only missing a line about getting our Prior-ities straight.

I still want Moore to try 2nd base and see how that goes. Maybe the Cubs have gone this route I don't know but I think this kid could be an impact 2nd baseman.

Maybe he could be a poor man's Dan Uggla.

Moore was initially drafted as a shortstop, so maybe he could handle it defensively.

Good one Gilesbro. I got a good laugh out of it, and no I'm not drunk. I don't know what to think about Scott Moore. I think we better figure out something out quickly because Aramis is going to opt out and get a big contract somewhere else.

Exaclty.

The Cubs IMO don't understand the concept of leveraging cheap young players.

Exhbit A.

Rich Hill - 1st half of the season. Yeah he was getting shelled. But he was

still a better/cheaper left handed option than Glendon Rusch. Hill should

have remained and Rush, well thats a different thread.

Why go out and sign these garbage players like Rush, and Perez when you have cheaper options in the minors that can fill these roles for you
