Has anybody had a weaker schedule than the Bears so far?

I agree, but they weren't scoring points like this last year even against the same bad teams. I'm scared of them right now.

Yeah, we'll see what happens the next two weeks at Minnesota and against Seattle.

The Chargers and Ravens??

I crack myself up.

The Chargers I will give you with Tennessee and Oakland. Baltimore also played Oakland but I don't think Tampa Bay is that bad of a team.

This might help people decide...

The others listed in the top 5 should be enough to tell you that it's way too early to salivate over that list.

Um, this poll has quite frankly scared the crap out of me. I shall not be voting.

OK, the rather heated tangent has been split and moved to Rants. This thread can now go back to being the light-hearted fun it was intended to be.

Sexy Rexy wins NFC Offensive Player of the Month

http://www.chicagobears.com/news/NewsStory.asp?story_id=2480

Having revived the passing game while leading the Bears to a 3-0 start, quarterback Rex Grossman on Thursday was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Month for September.

“It just shows that we’re off to a good start as an offense,” Grossman said. “I think that’s pretty much a team award when your quarterback wins something like that. A lot of guys have been playing well and have stepped it up, (offensive coordinator) Ron Turner included. I’m happy about it, but I think our offense should be just as happy.”

Grossman is the first Bears player to win an NFC Offensive Player of the Month award since Neal Anderson in September 1989, a span of 17 years.

When will it become acceptable to start discussing his contract situation? Not Angelo and his agent, I mean us. He signed a 5 year deal and this is year 4. If he's truly the QB of the future, I assume they'll try to extend him in the offseason. With his injury history and small portfolio, you don't want to get too far ahead of yourself. But does Jerry consider using some of this year's extra cap space to sign him now? Should we wait until he plays 8 straight before talking? That would give him 17 career games, including the playoffs. Do we wait until the postseason?

Do you force him to play all of 2006 and 2007, and let him go to free agency?

I think a lot of it depends on this season. How durable he proves to be (personally, I think his injuries were a fluke; don't see how a ligament tear and a broken ankle can be linked to any common cause) will be a big factor. If he plays 15-16 games, puts up good numbers, and the Bears have success in the playoffs (hell, even if they don't), I think you have to make an effort to lock him up after this season.

The beauty of it is that NFL contracts aren't guaranteed. I think the cheapest we'll get him while still having a good idea of how productive he can be with this team will be after this season.

Probably true. I think you want to at least wait for the second half of this season. If all goes well by then, maybe you consider an extension early, if only to spread the cap hit to this year as well as the future.

Heck, if Grossman goes 10 games at this pace, with a 100+ rating 60% comp % etc, then he'll probably pay for his signing bonus in jersey sales alone. Then again, I don't know how late in the season you can extend a guy and still have it count toward this season's cap.

But best bet is most likely after the season, hopefully after a super bowl win.

If he reverts to a 75 rating guy, and misses a couple games, maybe you make him play out 2007 as well.

Last week against Arizona showed that he's a little closer to mortal than previously suspected, but his sexiness is holding strong in the face of adversity.
