It's that time of the year where teams are going to be clinching their divisions soon.

Here are the magic numbers

NL East - Mets (1, have clinched playoffs)

NL Central - Cardinals (12)

NL West - Dodgers (17)

NL Wild Card - Padres (15)

AL East - Yankees (6)

AL Central - Tigers (16)

AL West - Athletics (12)

AL Wild Card - Twins (15)

I think the only things that could change are NL West, AL Central and both Wild cards.

the AL Central and wildcard look like the most exciting races. the twins and white sox play the last weekend of the season too. the NL wildcard would be more interesting if any of the teams were actually good.

Does anyone get the feeling that whichever club decides to "take one for the team" and volunteer to take the wildcard will get it? The NL wildcard is looking like the NL Central this year.

what about them? They're not going to catch the A's.

The New York Mets have finally put a stop to, perhaps, the most futile (when it comes to World Championships) dynasty in the history of sports.

I still can't wrap my mind around a team other then the Braves as NL East champs.

They have been winning divisions as long as I can remember.

The first year that I really really got into baseball past the Cubs was 1991 watching the LCS's on CBS. I can still hear their theme music in my head.

Darn kids. Don't you ever remember the Cubs winning the East?

Or how about that when the Braves started their streak, they were actually in the NL West.

I remember that. 1993 when the Braves were down big to the Giants late in the season but came back to win the division by one game. The 1993 Giants and their second best record in the majors watching the playoffs from home. Great stuff.

Well there is one thing that I do totally agree with Tony LaRussa on, is it's not right to celebrate after a loss (didn't he postpone last years celebration until after they won a game after clinching due to someone elses loss?)
