There is nothing wrong with seeing if Moore can play at the major league level. Hendry is covering all the bases, so in case ARam does decide, Hendry will have a good idea on rather Moore can play, or should he go after a vet stopgap, like a David Bell..

OK, I guess that could be what Hendry is thinking. But if ARam goes, signing any vet stopgap like David Bell would only compound the blunder. There's little chance Hendry could replace Aram's production on top of all the other holes in this offense (even with the money, the talent just isn't available in the FA pool). Signing a guy like Bell just burns payroll and creates another deficient spot in the lineup.

If ARam goes, Moore is the only rational choice.

If ARam goes, the only play is to stick with all of the young pitching and young position players and hope they perform well enough to fill a few spots or create trade value. Save payroll in '07 to make a run at FAs in the '07-'08 offseason.

Of course, that's not the Cubs M.O. They aren't thinking two or three years ahead. Instead, they'll set a budget of "X" (5% more that the previous year), spend that amount, and hype the their mediocre FA signings in hopes of selling another 3 million tickets next season. It's the "be mediocre long enough and sooner or later you're likely to catch lightning approach". And it's stupid.

I was gonna start a similar thread with the title "Is Hendry stupid enough to..."

Ah...a fellow SLU grad...very nice! Aram will opt out and force the cubs hand, one way or another. You think they'd be smart enough to have extended him in the spring before his value could rise this year...right.

Nothing more, nothing less.

Well there is nothin wrong with letting Moore play so you know what you have, but if he decides he can go with Moore over Aram because of a month of play, thats crazy.

If Hendry decides he could go with Moore than it better be a complete youth movement. That means trading away Lee, Barrett, and Jones, and collecting draft compensation for Pierre. Zambrano is the wild card. He is still young enough to be a part of a youth movement, but if someone wildly overpays...

I'm pretty sure Hendry won't decide on not re-signing Aramis because of Moore's play in September.

Moore was called up because he deserves it and because he's close to the big leagues. He's headed to the AFL next month, and I would be shocked if he's not at AAA next year (and I expect Aramis to be re-signed).

If Ramirez does come back raisin I fully expect him to be overpayed and Hendry's (along with Pierre) big free agent signee's. I think Hendry will go after Soriano after he loses Ramirez but he won't get both IMO. If he does I will be impressed.

Moore is lefthanded correct? Why not let him platoon with Theriot at second? If either one catches fire go with him. I think these guys will make for a decent and cheap bench too allowing Hendry to go after some high priced guys to put in the starting 8 and at starting pitcher.

I wouldn't mind if Hendry didn't resign ARAM and used the money to sign two front of the rotation starters. I'm impressed with Moore's consistency in the minors over the last couple of seasons. In High A, and AA his season stats are nearly identical. He has shown no drop in power or patience as he has progressed through the Cubs system.
