Things will never change as long as Hendry is running the team. I still can't believe he value's RISP over OBP in a interview last month.

Bruce - thanks for articulating alot of the points that so many of us cub fans feel need to be addressed in bullet point format. Short and sweet.

We can only hope big Andy, Jim and the Trib understand these comments. We can only hope.

Does he also realize that he must think of Kerry Wood (if he comes back) and Mark Prior as bonus items and not givens for next year?

A FREAKIN MEN!

Probably the best Cubs article I have ever read.

Lets us now turn to the scripture according to our baseball lord, Bruce the Christ, who doth proclaimed a path to baseball salvation.

Sorry I tried to writed an original way to say "right on, as usual Bruce Miles"

Like other posters offended at the "Fat Jim" Hendry moniker, I would appreciate if we didn't refer to Mr. Miles as "Bruce the Christ". Thank you.

Yes, that is a bit much.

How about, "The Bruce"? :D

While the OBP issue is real, I think hendry has already addressed the Wood/Prior concern. I have heard/read him note several times this season that he takes responsibility for not proprely stacking the starting rotation and that he needs reliability in the rotation.

I expect him to enter 2007 with 8 viable starters ready to go, one of which will be a long man (probably Rusch, ugh) and the other two in AAA waiting for an injury replacement call-up.

Breaks into Scottish Brogue "Ayeeee The BRUcce!"

I like that.

I can see it now... Que the dramatic music.... Meeting on horse back in middle of Wrigley Field....

NSBBer: So Bruce, did you come to watch the game?

The Bruce: No, I came to write intelligent articles.

NSBBer: Who is that? *Looking toward 3rd base dugout*

*Bad King Hendry and Marshall Baker appear on horseback.*

The Bruce: *Wheels horse so that he can address the assembled masses*

"FOR OPS!!!!!!!!!!"

*Leads charge toward Hendry and Co.*

Bad King Hendry: Do not fear Marshall Baker. We will defeat them with wild first hacks and slick fielding."

Marshall Baker: "Dude."

*The Bruce leading the charge beats King Hendry and Marshall Baker about the head and sholders with OPS while NSBBers cheer him on*

Bad King Hendry: "See Marshall Baker I told you we would win with wild first hacks and slick feilding"

*The Bruce remains as pristine as a baseball used by a soft tossing lefty against the Cubs*

Marshall Baker: "Yep Dude. Just like Hank Aaron told me one time dude. Hey did you know I was on-deck when he hit 715 dude?"

*Que to aftermath of wild melee*

*The Bruce surveying the scene still as pristine as a baseball used by that soft tossing lefty*

NSBBer: "The Bruce! Great article, when will King Hendry, et al learn?"

The Bruce "When will they? When!?!"

*Que dramatic exit music setting next scene for The Bruce and whinsome actress of the hour*

Easy, easy, easy there.

I appreciate the nice words, but Derwood reminded you guys before about heaping too much praise. You just know it'll go to my head.

Just trying to have a little fun today.

I will believe it when I see it. As of now I am convinced that he will

count on Prior as his #2 guy going into 07.

While I don't want to throw Prior under the bus(simply because it makes no sense to dump a player when his stock has hit rock bottom aka Corey Patterson), he should be at the most a #4 option at this point. #5 would be a even smarter move.

Excellent article, Bruce. It's amazing how far this team has fallen since the euphoria of 2003.

But Bruce, still no plug for Dierker?!?! Come on...I need some help on this!

I knew this complaint would come up... :)

This had me cracking up in my dorm room... good thing nobody walked by, because they wouldn't understand it at all!

•What part of “on-base percentage” will the Cubs begin to understand first?

•Ditto for “slugging percentage?”

•Do the Cubs now realize that if you get enough runners on base via hits and walks (yes, walks), you’ll score a lot of runs and win ballgames?

•Have the Cubs finally figured out why Derrek Lee had “only” 107 RBI last year, despite winning the National League batting title at .335 and hitting 46 home runs?

What's pathetic is that Bruce isn't some genius who came up with this on his own - a lot of us have been saying it as well. It's pretty mind-boggling that so many people can realize what is wrong with the Cubs, yet the people in charge of the Cubs do not.

It's also mind-boggling that of all the columnists in Chicago, Bruce seems to be the only one with any sense. Like the guy who went overboard with his praise of the Izturis trade. Come on, how can that guy be a professional sports reporter?

Hey, Tim: my "Murderer's Throw" T-shirt is pretty faded, which is just as well because I think Dempster's the only name left on the list who was still pitching for the Cubs as of yesterday. (I'm not counting Z, because he SHOULDN'T be, at least not until next March.)

Perhaps we should do a 2007 T-shirt? I nominate the "plate discipline" part of my new sig.

Well...the Tribune writers are simply puppets for MacPhail and Hendry.

Paul Sullivan tried the critical route...but was chastized by Cubs management.

As for the Sun Times...IMO 90% of Kiley's stuff is gargabe. Plus they pretty much put all their time into covering the Sox.

Mariotti(excuse me while I throw up) probably gets on the Cubs the best

over there. But he is still a windbag.
