I can't talk about playoffs either, but my team went 9-3 to close out the season. There is reason for hope in the future.

Unfortunately, I started out 1-9.

yea, you had a nice end to the season mr. spoiler . . .

I want my young pitchers back. :(

is liriano coming back? Having greg anderson out of prison long enough to rejuvenate barroid should be enough for you!

i can't decide who i want to win between HBC and buddiga.

it looks like buddiga would have double starts from cabrera and arroyo next week, while HBC would only have double starts from meche.

go HBC???

I'll be listening to trade offers this offseason. I promise.

The only one I really regret is Verlander. I was ridiculously loaded with young arms. I traded you Bonderman, Verlander, Cain and Santana. I also traded away Reyes. I still have Liriano and Billingsley from my group at the beginning of the year. I've added Garza, Hughes and Adam Miller.

I can't complain about the production I've gotten from Halladay. I just wish Ensberg hadn't hurt his shoulder immediately upon arrival. But that's the way things go sometimes.

My real regret is trading Markakis & Tabata for Floyd. What the hell was I thinking?!?

I made out like a bandit on a few trades this year. The above mentioned trade as well as A. Jones for Ibanez and Hanley.

I think the deals that put me over the hump happened between June 1st and 4th.

In one deal, I traded Morgan Ensberg for Matt Cain, Ervin Santana, Ian Stewart and Craig Hansen.

Later that day, I traded Tim Hudson for Scott Rolen. 3 days later, I picked up CM Wang off the waiver wire and he's been solid ever since.

I regret the way that trade worked out, but I think it was a good move when I made it. At that time, Ensberg was in or near the top 5 for overall points. I was overloaded with pitching and needed to clear a bunch of roster space. I look at Cain as being lesser than the guys I kept, Santana is very inconsistent, Stewart has been a disappointment this season and Hansen is a middle-relief prospect at this point.

Oh yeah, my other big regret is ending up in the hospital the day of the draft, leaving me with an unbalanced roster and the need to make some trades that wouldn't have been necessary if I had been there. :(

I would have had a bullpen, too.

But, I'm looking at those deals collectively.

Ensberg- 324 points

Hudson- 258 points

_______________

682 points given up

Rolen- 431 points

Wang- 343 points

Santana- 298 points

Cain- 285 points

Hansen- 47 points

_______________

1404 points acquired + a top prospect in Ian Stewart.

No doubt they were great moves for you and they helped propel you to your strong finish. I'm just trying to justify to myself that the one move wasn't as awful as it seems.

It really wasn't, you know. Really. I mean it.

:D

What I'm looking forward to is when Ian Stewart and Troy Tulowitzki are side by side in the Colorado infield and the Rockies quit baking baseballs in a humidor.

I think the term steaming would be more appropriate than baking in the humidor.

I don't regret the rolen deal either though you clearly got the upper hand. there was no way I could keep him and I had a good replacement at 3b on hand. you were in the right place at the right time. hudson has been very disappointing though.

HBC may be f'ed due to the rainouts (and arroyo's start).

and i'd do the AJ for ibanez + hanley trade again in a heartbeat. i like ibanez, but i'd never guess that he'd be so productive. plus, i didn't have room in my lineup (or roster, for that matter) for ramirez.

besides, my other trades have netted me vlad, schilling, glaus, and soriano w/o having to give up anybody that would have helped me this year. if you make enough trades some of them will work out for you!

Posted

Ahem, in May, I traded Jose Guillen and Ty Wigginton for Justin Morneau.

Me and Juan's blockbuster is looking ok for me too. I got Matt Holliday and Johan Santana for Jason Bay, Marcus Giles, and Paul Maholm.

I have my share of questionable trades too. My (least) favorite in the 04 offseason, I traded Fielder, Carlos Lee, and Ben Sheets for Richie Sexson, Kaz Matsui and JD Closser.

Sexson was easily the best player at that time (highest scoring). Fielder was coming off a mediocre AA season. Lee was an average player for CWS. Matsui was a potential superstar at a tough to find middle IF spot. And Closser was the projected starting catcher for the pre-humidor Rockies. OUCH! IT could be me as defending champion.

yea, I never dreamed holliday would be that good.

if i remember correctly, you had both weeks and fielder. i wanted weeks, but you insisted on fielder...worked out pretty well for me.

Yeah, that's pretty much how it worked.

good grief - still no pronk and no SS. I've replaced Sowers with Garcia since Cleveland is going to a six man rotation and Jeremy gets bumped out of his saturday start.

the royals better at least get a hit . . .
