Scott McClain-1B-Athletics Sep. 1 - 3:13 pm et

Veteran third baseman Scott McClain was named the Pacific Coast League's MVP on Thursday.

McClain, 34, won the honors despite a .252/.312/.464 line in 532 at-bats. All that really mattered apparently was that he had 106 RBI. Portland's Jon Knott and Jack Cust and Tucson's Alberto Callaspo were among several players who would have been better choices. There was a time not long ago that McClain would have been a fine bench player or stopgap third baseman in the majors. However, he's past his prime now, and it's unlikely that he'll have a legitimate chance of making a team next spring.

Haha, good to see minor league voters are as stupid as major league voters - if not more so.

Those are numbers that the Cubs like.

He's 44th in OPS right now. That might be the worst choice of league MVP I've ever seen.

Dude's got intangibles man. He's a clubhouse presence. That's why he's so valuable.

Compare the stats

Knott currently has better numbers in every category except SB, R & H in 69 fewer AB.

I fell for your "ooh, click me" trick and found some loser with these numbers playing for a team called Iowa:

293/374/561/935

As did I. I also noticed the guy right above him who also plays for that Iowa team hitting .296/.375/.825 and playing 2B. Couldn't use that at the top of the order or anything........
