I couldn't even continue reading after the first paragraph.

Clutch hits and timely defense -- the Little Leaguers from Columbus, Ga., sure are well-schooled in some of the fundamentals of baseball.

they teach clutch hitting well down in Georgia - and just what the heck is timely defense?

No clue.

When's the last time you saw intentional walks in LL ? Then again, when's the last time you heard of a 12 year old with 54 home runs ?

Sounds like a couple of areas the Cubs definitely need to address in the off-season. Cesar Izturis might knock in a lot of runs with his glove, but I'm not sure he's "timely".

Someone on this board was talking about timely baserunning the other day...and I was confused.

Too bad, the Cubs couldn't get any "Timely managing," whatever that means.

Timely defense, and this is just a guess, is making a great play when there are men on base. Either that or it means playing bad defense to allow baserunners but then make good plays to keep them from scoring.

How could you forget Marc Pisciotta ? Actually, the last time Georgia sent a team to the LLWS (East Marietta LL) they won it with Pisciotta on the mound.

Is it just me, or does the concept of timely defense imply that there's also a good time to make an error when there is no one on base?
