I saw the movie today - it was very good, you guys did a great job, Windy City. About the only bad thing I can say about the film was that Bernie Mac was in it. His two scenes should have been cut out.

It was fun to relive the excitement in the stands and in the streets during that series win over the Braves. Seeing it on the big screen just made it more impressive. One thing I know Cub fans have over WSox fans is a great passion for their team. I just don't see this type of film coming from a Sox fan.

I went to see the film at the AMC theater in Barrington this afternoon. I got to the theater a couple minutes before the start time. There were commercials on the screen and a few minutes later the film started. The scene was Matt talking to Lofton after he was just traded to the Cubs. So I waited a couple of minutes for the operator to realize the mistake and re-start the film. The film kept going and I walked out to the find a manager. I told her what happened and she called the booth and they told her that the film started on time - 12:55, which I wasn't disputing. I explained to her that there were no opening credits and that the film just picked up at a point which would have been halfway through the season and therefore the movie. Again, she called the booth and told them to check the movie. The same reply came back. So I told her to give me my money back and I went to see it at The Music Box.

The frustrating part was that neither the manager or the operator did not want to bother to even look at the screen.

Yeah this is worth seeing, i will be seeing it again because i thought it was that good. the whole playoff thing is heartbreaking (damn you Alex Gonzales, you should be held in infamy like Buckner). I knew one of the girls in the movie actually, she says go cubbies with one of his shirts on.

his girlfriend in the movie IS SOOOOOOOOOO HOT also, well in my opinon

Thanks for your comments jiml60 and oldstyle81 -- this is a movie by Cubs fans for Cubs fans, so its wonderful to know that we may have done well in our goal.

jiml60 -- I let Matt know about the Barrington issue the same day you reported it and it appears it was just an isolated problem -- thanks again for alerting us though.

My last bump of this thread....

After clearing a few MLB-licensing hurdles, 'Chasing October' is now available for sale on DVD. The official release date is June 12th, and a pre-sale special price of $18.95 is available via CubsMovie.com with portions of all sales going to Derrek Lee's Project 3000.

Thanks again to those that made it out to theaters and hopefully to the many more that will get a chance to see it now that it will be available on DVD.

Hope you enjoy the film and, if you do, please tell others about it.

Sorry....you will have to pay ME to relive that debacle. I dont want to think about it.

I would go through that every year if it meant we get all the fun leading up to it.

Living it again every year is one thing, mainly because of the hope that it will be different, but going back to a particular year is another. Just reading some of the comments in this thread get me close to welling up. I'll hunt down a copy of the DVD after the Cubs win it all, but until that (fictional) day, I won't be able to relive any of that.

Nah, not me. Just the fact that we were really relevant made it worth it. For one year everyone had to shut up and take us seriously. For one year there were no jokes. Sure it ended poorly, but it was still worth it. I only wish we would have taken better care of our pitchers so it could have happened again.

I will wait until the Cubs are at least in the playoffs. I got an email from Wrigleyville Sports about the DVD. Then I thought about that ground ball going through Gonzo's legs and I felt sad. I just don't think I could take seeing all that again. My doctor put me on an anti-depressant for a while I was so down back then. I guess that makes me weak or something.

You are a better man than I am illiniguy.

Yea.....I guess you could call that "ending poorly".......that big yellow "8" on the big green scoreboard is a sight I will never forget.

"Ended Poorly" is really an understatement isnt it? They lost in true Cub fashion.....spectacularly.....painfully......with a good dose of agony and humiliation thrown in for good measure.

I guess we are all different, but the only memories I have of that season at this point are bad ones.

The only good thing to come out of that year is that it truly sucked a good portion of my "Cub Love" out of me. I still love the team and want them to win.......but I just dont care as much.....and overall.....I consider that a good thing.

Very true. It's different for me. As disappointed as I was about the ending, I prefer that to not having made the postseason at all (I looked at 1984 the same way). Similarly, as a Bears fan in football, I prefer them making the Super Bowl last season but losing to not making it in the first place. But just because I can look at things this way doesn't mean it's wrong for others who can't.

See I care more. If getting that close felt so good at the time, think what the next two steps would feel like. Hey I am still pretty young, I am in good health. I think I will see one. Call me dumb if you want, but I think we will get one, someday.

I still remember how unbelievable it was - I don't think my feet touched the ground from the division-clinching DP against Pirates game until Alou's glove did when he flipped out. The experience was nothing short of euphoric, but the colossal fashion in which it fell apart is just so... Cubs-like.

Yes, I would rather they get in the door and not finish the job than just not make any noise to begin with, but I can look back at the Bears' Superbowl loss and know that a better team beat the same Bears team we had seen all season. I can't do that with the 03 Cubs. I can only look back and feel cheated and pained.

Yeah, but at least in '03 and '04 the Cubs were interesting for the entire year. I mean last year, what the hell was there to root for after the middle of May? The team was a joke, the manager and GM were a joke, there weren't a lot of exciting young players... really, the last three months of the year I rarely paid attention except when Rich Hill was on the mound.

I love baseball, and the longer I can stay interested in the season, the better. Hell, if I were a Red Sox, Yankees or Braves fan I'd be interested through September almost every year. With the Cubs, you're to be in the race one out of every five. It's embarrassing and pathetic.
