I'm bored and have nothing better to do. I figure this would be a good way to generate discussion about prospects and get a feel on where the guys stand in relation to one another considering a heck of a lot of guys from last season have been traded, injured, and/or promoted.

So, here are the rules. I'm going to post a list of my top 25 prospects. If you feel a guy is missing or the ranking is off, you may post one move. You could either swap a player (say you want to swap Donald Veal and Felix Pie) or you could drop a player & add a player (let's say you prefer Nate Spears to Josh Lansford).

For the purposes of this list, I'm only allowing guys who have no major league experience. Thus, guys like Juan Mateo, Sean Marshall, and Ryan Theriot are ineligible.

Sound good? Here's the initial list:

1) Felix Pie

2) Donald Veal

3) Sean Gallagher

4) Eric Patterson

5) Mark Pawelek

6) Mitch Atkins

7) Tyler Colvin

8) Scott Moore

9) Jake Fox

10) Ryan Harvey

11) Mark Reed

12) Jeff Samardzija

13) Brian Dopirak

14) Billy Petrick

15) Jose Ceda

16) Chris Huseby

17) Scott Taylor

18) Geovany Soto

19) Dylan Johnston

20) Jake Renshaw

21) Sam Fuld

22) Miguel Negron

23) Rafael Dolis

24) Drew Rundle

25) Josh Lansford

Just one question. Why do you have Samardzija ranked in the top 25?

High 90s fastball, good secondary stuff, and a nice ceiling. If he were committed to baseball full time, he would likely have been a first rounder.

I'd definitely have Pawelek one spot higher. Petrick and Huseby higher (in the top 10 each). Dylan Johnston lower. I like Justin Berg and Mark Holliman a bit, I'd try to include them in the back end of the top 25.

Wouldn't know how or where to rank Larry Suarez.

We picked up a kid in the 11th round, Chris Huseby, who was unsignable type guy. We had him as a first round talent. We gave him a heck of a bonus, but we're thrilled to have him in a year we didn't have three picks.

We also took a kid named Drew Rundle in the 14th round that we projected [to go in] the third or fourth round. We knew he was going to be a tough sign, and we gave him $500,000 which is third or fourth round money.

From BCB. From the bonus we knew they were high on Huseby, but this just caps it

I think we'll have several guys in the AZL top 20 BA prospects.

Huseby and Ceda should be there somewhere. A couple others could be.

And from today's monday morning ten pack

The fifth overall pick in last year's draft, Braun was considered one of the best pure hitters available and was put on the fast track after hitting .352/.393/.632 in his pro debut. The Florida State League proved to be a tough challenge for the former University of Miami star, though, as Braun hit a relatively tame .274/.346/.438 for Brevard County. Bumped up to the Southern League, things are coming together quite nicely. Before he was shut down on Sunday by Cubs prospect Sean Gallagher, Braun went deep in three straight games; and in 46 games since his promotion he's batting .306/.369/.589 with 16 doubles and 11 home runs in 180 at-bats. The Brewers have drafted and added some big bats to the major league lineup over the last few years, and Braun could be joining them by mid-2007.

Eh, I know I'm just grasping for air in that....

And I'd add Suarez over Lansford. Id take him over a guy who will probably never play above double a.

I might have Sean above Veal because of his emergence over the last three starts in Double-A, but Veal is putting up some really impressive numbers in High-A. He has handled his promotion a smidge better than Gallagher (not to say that Sean hasn't because he is becoming pretty special).

Bottom line is.. I am going to have FUN watching these two guys in the Southern League next year (hopefully on a daily basis, but that decision hasn't been made yet).

Hopefully the decision will be to not have them pitching on a daily basis.

Goony, that wasn't the decision I was talking about..

They (Veal and Gallagher) will pitch every fifth day, I was talking about whether or not the Cubs will stay in Jackson or go elsewhere in the Southern League.

I realize that, I was just kidding.

Veal being ahead of Gallagher is a minor quibble...

But I would DEFINITELY have Scott Taylor above ND's wide receiver.

Assuming Samardzija stays in baseball, would you still prefer Taylor. If so, why?

Goony,

I figured you were, but wanted to make sure.. after yesterday, I have learned my lesson.. lol

Raisin.. do you think Samardjia stays with baseball? I don't think he will, especially if/when he has a moster year at ND this fall.

No I don't. I just wanted to see what Nathan thought of the two based only on their play.
