Fun fact: Tahiti can still advance in the Confederations Cup but Mexico can't.

Another fun fact: All Tahiti needs is for Spain to beat Nigeria and then beat Uruguay by 18 goals to advance.

U-20s gave up an early goal to Spain, but they are borderline dominating play right now. A lot of good chances for only the 24th minute.

Unless you have peak power Jay DeMerit, Oguchi Onyewu and Carlos Bocanegra holding the line and crushing everything in the air, you cannot force Spain into a transition game and win. They will slice an unorganized back line to ribbons.

I don't see how it's possible at this point, but there are apparently background discussions on moving 2014 to England if the riots/protests in Brasil keep up.

I agree that it's not close to likely. England would be the best choice though. Stadiums, mass transit, infrastructure, etc. Spain would work too. We could pull it off but I don't think USSF would want it without more prep time to market and plan.

Btw, I'm making a point to watch RSL this year because its the last we'll see of Gil for a long time in our league.

If anything, it's probably a ham-fisted leak to try and get the protesters to unite against hating England-which they love-and shock them into thinking they could lose the tournament.

I don't think the people down there give a crap, though.

I think USSF could pull it off more easily than England in some ways. We have the massive stadia everywhere, infrastructure, the media echo chamber, the built in ticket buying base, 3 of the largest media markets in the world...

Gil is sooo good, and Kreis and Co have done a fantastic job developing him.

Jozy Watch:

Schalke

Lazio

Fiorentina

Napoli

Fulham

Sunderland

Celtic

Southampton

Cardiff

Norwich

I've read links to these clubs so far, there was big Russian & Ukranian interest but he ruled them out.

The Fire are 5-0-1 in all competitions since they added Magee, with Magee scoring in all 6 games. Remarkable turnaround.

Magee has just been ridiculous in the past year and a half. That chested finish today was really great.

I understand youth tournaments are not about results and that Tab Ramos is doing the job he was appointed to do: teach a high-line, pressuring style, results be damned, but benching your captain for a defender who has been nothing but a liability in a must-win game against an elite French team is idiotic and has nothing to do with that style mandate.

1-0 France on a dumb penalty conceded by Javan Torre who shouldn't be playing over Stanko.

They are blanket covering Gil. 2 things re: that. 1 - He's still finding his chances. He's a total stud and the kind of player we've never, ever produced in the Iniesta mold (not saying he's that good). 2 - I'm disappointed that no one has stepped up because the space is there.
