yeah, I had no idea the US was ranked so low (28). Seems we'll jump to around 24th after this 9 point June.

With Costa Rica's win, the US now needs only 3 points to assure at worst a tie for 3rd in qualifying. And if the 3 points is against someone other than Jamaica, they finish no worse than 3rd.

There is a scenario where we finish fourth even if we beat Jamaica (or just beat Panama). Honduras would go 4-0 (winning in Mexico), Mexico going 3-1 (winning in Costa Rica and in the US), CR going 2-2 and us going 1-3. Then either Panama goes 2-2 and Jamaica goes 0-4 or both go 1-3 (alternating the US results). But a single tie by either Mexico or Costa Rica drops either below us.

 

And if we beat either CR or Mexico, we could still finish tied for third but again, it involves the unlikely scenario of none of Honduras, Mexico or Costa Rica tying a game as well as us losing at home to Jamaica and on the road in Panama.

 

So yeah, we're in great shape. Realistically, if we beat one of Jamaica or Panama, we're pretty much in.
