Champions League starts this afternoon. I put a 4-team parlay down on Inter, Barca, Chelsea, and Liverpool. Pool is the only one I am worried about as Marseille beat them last year at Anfield.

As a Marseille fan, I'm worried about Liverpool. That was an AWFUL Liverpool performance at Anfield last year, and the 4-0 at the Velodrome was out of character for both. I'd fancy Liverpool to shade it tonight, but a draw, I think, for both teams would be decent - not many teams will win in Marseille, and not many teams will beat Liverpool.

What chance of Robbie Keane's first goal in a red (although I guess they'll wear turquoise) shirt?

I'm making a t-shirt, maybe plural, for the USMNT because there aren't any out there and I want some.

What do you guys think?

Tim Howard shirt.

Slightly different Tim Howard shirt.

Also, John Harkes in the NY Times echoing common sentiments regarding our play in qualification and the desire to see Adu and Altidore. Also in there is a snippet about Altidore's debut for Villarreal and some Spanish reaction.

Congrats on the win (even though you probably didn't even get even money).

Seth, what the hell happened?!

They've looked like hot ass all preseason and early season so it wasn't surprising. Also they have a ton of defensive injuries so they played with a central D pairing of two wingbacks, followed by, after one of them got injured, a wingback and a backup d-mid.

I'm a bit worried. They could basically be done for the season if they don't snap out of it in the next couple of games.

So I saw one of the weirdest goals I've ever seen today at a Davis High game.

A Davis kid played the ball over the top to a teammate and the linesman raised his flag for offsides. Both teams saw it and started to jog back upfield. But the referee never blew his whistle (which I've seen happen before in pro games). The opposing teams goalkeeper thought the referee had made the call and kicked the ball forward to the edge of the 18-yard box where the offsides took place. One of the Davis defenders realized that the referee had never blown the whistle and shouted at the forwards to go after the ball. One of the kids did, jogged to the ball (he must have looked back at the referee a couple times expecting a whistle) and kicked it in the net as the goalkeeper stood about 10 yards away with his hands raised wondering what was going on. After it was ruled a goal, five of the opposing team's players argued with the ref but he didn't change anything.

I love it when teams get caught out not playing to the whistle.

Can I gripe that Gerrard should never have had the ball because Modeste M'Bami shouldn't have given it away so stupidly, like he did five or six times? No, I can't, can I? Good finish. High quality game, too.

Yep, that's right. I have 4 years of high school Spanish and that's the best I can do.

PS, El Toro is a great nick name.

news = noticias

looks = probably would use the verb parecer

3 years of Spanish, 1 quarter in college.

Long time no see, Marco.

In an interview with a belgian newspaper, Oguchi Onyewu has stated he would stay at Standard Liège until the end of the season (also the end of his contract), but would not sgn an extension. So next summer he's a free agent and can change clubs without a transfer fee. he also said he'd like to go to the EPL.

Its good to be back.

According to the soccernet box score:

Liverpool took 30 shots to Stoke's 2.

Liverpool had 6 shots on goal to Stoke's 0.

Liverpool had 19 corner kicks to Stoke's 3.

Liverpool had 76% of the possession.

Problem was, both teams had 0 goals. Oh, and the game was at Anfield.

30 shots with only 6 on target? impressive.

Anyone watch the Man U-Chelsea match? I DVR'd it and I know what happened but I was wondering if it's worth watching the whole match or if the inevitable 10-15 minutes they'll show during the Review Show later will be enough.
