Yep. Not sure how that one was allowed. The Dutch player was pretty clearly offsides.

i understand the borderline offsides not being called, but that seemed pretty blatant to me.

And now a legitimate, and very pretty with a great buildup and finish, second goal for the Dutch.

Damn is it 2-0 now. What a dream start. I don't remember if I set my dvr yesterday being gone so much. I'm pretty sure they are showing a replay tonight.

Suck it Italy!!!

Wow. Van Nistelrooy should have made it 3-0 right before halftime but Buffon came up with a good save.

almost was 3-0 if ruud showed a little touch.

also, andy gray is fantastic.

I love listening to him. I can't stop smiling right now and I am not even watching the game at work. 3-0 at the half would have been unimaginable.

Ives' running commentary said an Italian defender had gone behind the goal. I'm not sure what the rule is on that, I'd think since they can come back on at any time that he'd be keeping anyone onside.

That was my only question on the goal. Like you, I'm not sure of the exact ruling if a player is on the ground and off the field of play but didn't go off injured. If he's ruled to be a part of the play, then it was onsides but if he's out of the play and doesn't count, then it's offsides.

Forgot about that guy until I saw the replay at halftime.

I believe he is part of play until the ref recognizes him and play has already stopped after he goes off. If the ref has not attended to him theoretically he could re-enter the pitch at any given moment.

They just cleared it up on the broadcast and said that the player off the field of play is still part of the play in that case so the right call was made by the referee.
