He was available last year via a trade and instead we traded for Pierre. Cameron never hits for a high average, but consistently has an isolated patience around .100, so his OBPs are normally pretty solid. His slugging is usally above average for a CFer as well. Add in his excellent defense in CF and you have yourself a very good player. If we don't resign Pierre, I suggest we get Cameron. He would immediately become our best outfielder.

I realize our pitching is a question mark, but I am more concerned with this offense. It could potentially be even worse next year.

He'll be 34 before next year and has a $7 mil club option with a $0.5 mil buyout for 2007. Assuming the Padres buy out his contract, I would only offer a 2 year deal at most for around $3-4 mil per year. If he wants a longer deal then let him go somewhere else.

His strikeout rate, rising age, and the relative small size of the Wrigley OF leaves me with no inclination to spend FA$ on him. He makes sense for teams like Seattle, San Diego, but not in Chicago; especially with the K-prone players we have retained already for 2007.
