Cubs fans do NOT do the wave. There should be no reason to elaborate. End of discussion.

when i was at the cubs-rockies series at coors in 04, the guy behind me kept trying to get me to do the wave as it came by.

i kept saying that i'm a baseball fan and what's going on on the field is far more interesting than a bunch of casual fans trying to create a carnival atmosphere. why do you come to a basbeall game if you'd have a much better time at elitch gardens?

there is a myth that cub fans populate wrigley for the atmosphere.

My only experiences with the wave at baseball games were at the Vet, Shea and Petco, with the one at Petco being the most enthusiastic and consistent.

they do it at miller.

i'd imagine that you won't find it at fenway or yankee stadium.

"How to attend a Baseball Game in Southern California"

1. Buy 4 tickets through an overpriced ticket resale service.

2. Call up 3 buddies and arrange to all meet at the Stadium.

3. Drive separate cars.

4. Arrive no sooner than the 3rd inning, but no later than the 4th.

5. Attempt to start a wave each inning, or participate in one.

6. Leave no sooner than the 7th inning stretch, but no later than the 8th (to beat traffic)

7. Sit in traffic.

You'll note, there was no mention of watching baseball...

I've seen it attempted at Yankee Stadium, but the layout makes it very difficult. For most games, there is nobody from right center to extreme left field. There's a block of bleachers that is usually empty, or close to it. Plus, the lower deck is sort of blocked off in boxes, as opposed to the typical stadium setup of lots of rows. While the upper deck is the last to fill up, extremely steep and practically cutoff from the lower deck (you can barely see the people below you). It just doesn't flow. They have their own silly traditions, like chanting out players names until they are acknowledged over most of the first inning, non-stop fights in the bleachers, the YMCA, Cotton-eyed Joe and really bad hot dogs.

that makes sense, and is really funny.

stadiums like the old busch, riverfront, 3-rivers, the cell, the kingdome, and the like have been pretty perfect for it. maybe that's why it's been so popular.

When I heard on the radio yesterday that the wave was performed at Wrigley, a little piece of me died. I too have a story of a group of clueless, drunken 20somethings trying to start the wave a few seasons ago and nobody participating. I was proud that I had never seen or heard of the wave being performed at Wrigley. To everyone saying "it's not a big deal", you just don't get it. You DO NOT do the wave at Wrigley. I'm not surprised if the RF bleachers started it, as my experiences tell me that they are the worst baseball fans in Wrigley, game in and game out. There are many annoying fan participation activities that go on at ball games, but performing the mindless, lemmings-over-the-cliff wave is the worst. Wrigley just got a little less special in my book.

I had a friend who went to Fenway earlier this year, and they did the wave there. He told me he asked his cousin (who lives out there and goes to a number of games per year) and he said it happens almost every game he has been at. At that point, my friend was bragging about it never happening at Wrigley and feeling at least superior about that. Now even that is gone.

Who cares? I mean don't you guys think this is gettting a bit too much pub.?

NO. The wave is pointless and stupid. The only time I can live with it is during football games...late in the 4th quarter of blowout football games...and that's it.

The only way I'd agree that it's getting too much pub is the realization that now more people know it happened. But once it's out, it's out, and we must do what we can to stop this from happening again.

Someone on the Cubs.com board posted that they would start the wave in the opposite direction that it was coming from so that it would offset the wave....now that would have been a site to see.

On the rare occasion at Wisconsin football games when they manage to get a split wave off (after a normal one, slow one, fast one, and reverse one), you see that happen.

It's a pretty cool sight, imo.

Give the fans something better to do, like play better baseball perhaps? Just a thought....

the whole right field vs. left field thing is almost as dumb as the wave.

Thank god someone said it.

Last year I was going with my friends and I wanted to sit in the RF Bleachers because Burnitz was in right (yes, I am a Burnitz fan), and Dubois was in left. My friends freaked out and were like "what?! right field sucks! left field is the place to be!" Needless to say, I didn't get to sit in Right Field.

I only go there when I have outta town friends come in town looking to catch a game. I never liked the bleachers. Give me Box seats any day of the week...

I've only witnessed two good splits in my day. Quite fun. But that's football.

Reverse, fast, and slow are all fun, but the split is the eternal goal and someone always ends up messin it up.

That point of impact could hit cataclysmic proportions.

The wave is running rampant in Chicago.

Yesterday, at the Bears practice/workout at Soldier Field the entire crowd starting doing the wave. I have never seen the wave done at a Bear's game or even one of the Soldier Field practices.

First at Wrigley Field now at Soldier Field.

I hate the wave. I also hate:

Races (Sausage, President, etc)

Those damned games on the jumbotron (Follow the ball!)

Dumb, unoriginal, mascots (most of them) in baseball

Thankfully, Wrigley has none.

Amen, brother. Seeing the Wave at Wrigley the other day sickened me. Hopefully it was the first and last time we'll ever see that.

I'm glad fans in this city have decided to actually do something during the dead times in games that makes some noise. Maybe I'm spoiled by soccer, but the atmosphere at our sporting events is really tame in comparison to an average soccer crowd.

The wave, singing, chanting, clapping...I'm all for it, it it brings some noise and energy to the experience.
