At AAA, Rich Hill checked in with the best breaking pitch in the PCL.

Today, the AA rankings came out. Eric Patterson checked in as the best baserunner in the SL and Chris Walker is the fastest baserunner in the SL. Recently promoted Juan Mateo has the best fastball in the SL! Chris Walker is the best defensive outfielder and, kind of shockingly, Scott Moore comes in as the best defensive thirdbaseman.

How hard does Mateo throw? As hard as Marmol?

I'm impressed by Walker this year. He's been a very steady performer. I didn't know that his defense was rated so highly though. Does he have a strong arm?

Wow. Where did that come from? Are they saying he has good range that compensates for (and belies) his error rate? Maybe a steady improvement? I'm glad to hear it -- and he certainly was solid in the few games I saw -- but I'm just wondering where it came from given reports to date.

Walker's a very small guy, so not much of an arm. From what I saw of him, he was very accurate, though. It's not Pierre weak at all, probably a little below league average for a CF. He's a very good fielder, though. Great speed, range, gets good jumps. Probably a better defender than Felix at this point.

In that case, Walker may very well be a CF candidate for next year.

Walks?!! We don't need no stinking walks!

He'll get rostered, but the Cubs will likely put him at AAA next season. He will need to adjust to better pitching as he moves up.

I'm interested in seeing what Hendry decides to do with CF and the Cubs and the plans for Pie. Fuld and Walker both seem deserving of promotion to the next level.

I think they're just trying to keep them all playing everyday right now because I really dont' see any other reason to hold them back. With Fuld turning 25 later this year, and Walker already at 26 I think this is a bad move. Fuld needs a challenge, even if it's not everyday. I don't see any harm in moving them arond between CF and LF just to give them a new challenge and help their value.

So, nobody in the SL has a better fastball than Mateo? I thought reports were that his fastball only sat in the low 90's? Do they mean that he has the best fastball with movement?

The [Daytona] Cubs made a wise decision by putting him into the rotation. His out-pitch is a nasty slider, and he throws low and away to right-handers. He’s also got a great fastball, plus-91 mph on the gun, and a great attitude [....] It’s somewhat tough to figure out as he's just now popping up on everyone’s radar, so nobody really knows how good he can be yet. I think he has a lot of talent.

No Daytona Cubs in the High-A. Probably the only two who had any chance were Gallagher and Veal (and at the time they did this, Veal might not have pitched much in the FSL yet), and it's not surprising that they were passed up by the likes of Homer Bailey, Matt Garza and Kevin Slowey for all the pitching categories.

Also, the manager for Palm Beach's name is Pop Warner.
