2 night games in a row for Mesa; I guess they're trying to avoid the heat?

The AZL has moved to 7:00 PM games for the rest of the season. It's how things work out there; first half is 10:30 AM, second half is 7 PM.

Probable Starters:

Iowa: RHP Angel Guzman (3-4, 4.31 ERA, 1.29 WHIP) @ RHP Micah Owings (7-0, 4.26 ERA)

West Tenn: LHP JR Mathes (8-4, 3.19 ERA, 1.18 WHIP)

Daytona: LHP Carlos Perez (3-5, 4.50 ERA, 1.73 WHIP)

Peoria: RHP Jeff Samardzija (0-1, 5.40 ERA, 1.00 WHIP; overall: 1-2, 3.00 ERA) @ RHP Rafael Gonzalez (0-2, 16.5 ERA)

Boise: RHP Jose Pina (1-3, 5.79 ERA, 1.38 WHIP)

Mesa: RHP Jake Renshaw (0-0, 5.06 ERA, 1.50 WHIP)

*Take Mesa's probable starter with a grain of salt as they shuffle their pitchers from the rotation to the pen with frequency. It's especially problematic predicting who'll start when the previous day's game is rained out.

This will be Jeff's last start of the 2006 season before he returns to Notre Dame.

Pie has been sick with respiratory stuff. That's why he hasn't been playing.

OK. At least there's a good reason for it.

GO GOOZ.

Yeah, wasn't he really good his last time out or something? Two in a row would be nice or two out of his last three, whatever it is...

And it will be interesting to see how his opponent does, one time Cubs draftee - Micah Owings.

BTW, I know that Chris Huseby is signed, but is there any news as to when he is going to play? I figured if he is signed he would likely be at Mesa, at the very least. But so far, no sign of him. Are they just being extra careful with him because of his recent injury and are shutting him down for the rest of the season?

It would be 2 out of his last 3, though that good start was the one that only lasted 3.2 innings.

I saw a blurb from a month or so ago that said they expected to see Husesby get in-game action down in Mesa about two weeks ago (week of 7/16). As that hasn't happened, I don't know what's going on. Huseby definitely reported to Mesa though.

Boise is scoreless through 3 1/2. Fabian Jimenez Angulo got the start for Boise tonight and has made the most of it so far...only allowed 1 hit through 4 so far.

Iowa put up a 5 spot in the 1st. Pie doubled, McGehee had an RBI single, Restovich and Coats walked, and Deardorff hit a grand slam :)

OMG, Ryan Harvey.

Some kind of light has turned on for him over the last couple of weeks. He needs to keep it up though. There is hope for him yet, Cubs fans. Jonathon Mota with a nice night. WTG, D-Cubs! Nice win.
