Is Hendry even trying? I don't want Perez, but two minor league arms for a 4.5 ERA guy...surely we can do something to improve for the future.

True, but knowing KC, I'd have to imagine that the cash considerations were a pretty good sum of money...they aren't spending a ton for a crappy pitcher.

Not thaaaat strange. Dessens is a guy that actually was talked about as one of the key relievers on the market, and the Royals are trying to creatively rebuild that team. Adding Gathright, shedding MacDougal, and then adding a guy who, I believe, has what it takes to be a fine starting pitcher (and almost no-hit the Cubs on one occasion... though, that's all to common these days!) isn't totally unfathomable...

The Dodgers also sent minor league right-handers Blake Johnson and Julio Pimental and cash considerations to the Royals

Good deal for KC player-wise, Odalis never really recovered from the "DID YOU SEE ME DO SOMETHING FOR CHARITY?" fiasco.

If anything it is probably worth the gamble. They give 35 year old Dessens and get a younger Perez accompanied along with a couple of minor leaguers.

 

And from a financial perspective it is worth it for the Royals.

$2.4M left on Dessens' contract & about $16.3M left on Odalis Perez' contract

 

* LAD paying to KC $8M cash

 

* KC responsible for Dessens' 2006 & 2007 salaries ($2.4M left)

 

* LAD responsible for Perez' $4.5M bonus

 

* KC & LAD to split $1.5M 2008 buyout (with KC returning $0.75M to LAD if Royals trade Perez during life of his contract)
