FSL Pitcher of the Week"]Donnie Veal, Daytona

1-0, 0.00 ERA, 1 G, 1 GS, 0 CG, 0 SHO, 5.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 9 SO

Veal dominated Clearwater on Thursday, as the 21-year-old Mississippian struck out nine over five innings of no-hit ball. Daytona won the game by a score of 3-1, which is also Veal's win-loss record. The 6-foot-4 righty was removed after five innings because his pitch count exceeded 90. Blame it on all those strikeouts.

NWL Offensive Player of the Week"]Tyler Colvin, Boise

.367 (11-30), 8 R, 6 2B, 1 3B, 2 HR, 11 RBI, 1 BB, 1 SO, 0 SB, .833 SLG

Colvin started the week by going 0-for-4 against Everett. Since then, however, he has been an exceedingly tough out. The 20-year-old outfielder has hit safely and driven in at least one run in each of his last six games, and homered on both Thursday and Friday. The Hawks, who have won four straight games and seven of their last eight, have gotten hot right along with Colvin. Perhaps these two occurrences are somehow interconnected.

I believe that's the second time Donnie has won the award during his short stay in the FSL.

I thought Veal was a lefty.

he is a lefty. maybe he'll be the next dontrelle willis except this time around for the cubs. colvin seems to have adjusted to wooden bats quite quickly btw.

I don't mind if he becomes the next Dontrelle in Florida as long as Cabrera is the prize.

Jason DuBois was International Player of the Week.

International League

Jason Dubois, Buffalo

.417 (10-24), 7 R, 3 2B, 1 3B, 4 HR, 10 RBI, 2 BB, 6 SO, 0 SB, 1.125 SLG

From Thursday to Saturday, Dubois was an unstoppable force. The 27-year-old outfielder went 7-for-12 with four home runs and 9 RBIs during this three-day span, driving in five runs against Louisville on Thursday and homering twice against Syracuse on Saturday. Dubois has a .306 average for the month of July, after hitting just .216 over May and June combined.

Don't the Marlins have any other 6 fingered pitchers they can trade us?

Is there any chance that Colvin is promoted to Peoria?

I'd imagine he will if he keeps this up. He'll definitely be there by September, imo.

I hate to burst your bubble, but Miguel Cabrera won't be a Cubs till he is 36 years old. By said time, the Cubs can tout him as "The Franchise" and savior for the organization.

Besides, at this point, I rather the Cubs collect as much HEALTHY, talented pitchers as they can get, instead of blowing a load of talented pitchers on a ONE hitter.
