Probable Starters:

Iowa: RHP Jerome Williams (2-3, 4.74 ERA, 57 IP, 30/18, 1.61 WHIP)

Daytona: LHP Carlos Perez (2-5, 4.91 ERA, 69.2 IP, 54/39, 1.79 WHIP)

Peoria: RHP Todd Blackford (8-3, 4.29 ERA, 98.2 IP, 43/43, 1.43 WHIP)

Boise: RHP Jeff Samardzija (0-1, 3.21 ERA, 14 IP, 9/4, 4 HBP, 1.36 WHIP)

Mesa: RHP Taylor Paker (1-0, 0.56 ERA, 16 IP, 12/4, 1.00 WHIP)

*Take Mesa's probable starter with a grain of salt as they shuffle their pitcher from the rotation to the pen with frequency. At times, this is nothing more than just a best guess.

Completely ignoring CR's disclaimer about predicting the Mesa starter...

Is anybody else intrigued by Taylor Parker? He is a little tiny guy (5'10", 155 lbs) but is by far the best pitcher on Mesa so far this season. He is a 21-year-old lefty who was drafted in the 21st round out of Missouri.

Arizona is winning 3-1 in the bottom of the 5th. Parker went 4 inning 6H 1R 3/1 K/BB. McCormick has gone 1IP perfect 1/0 K/BB. Hackstedt has a solo homer; Rosario and Williams have the only other hits. Rundle has also walked both times up and scored once.

I'm 5'7 and I weigh as much as he does!

He better be the best pitcher on the roster, he's pitching against 18 year olds.

At 155, he better start eating like an 18 year old.

I wouldn't hold out very high hopes for Parker. He didn't even start for Mizzou.

Especially in the low minors the starter/reliever stuff really doesn't matter much since they throw so few innings at a time. I believe Pawelek has have a few relief appearances this year for example, it's all just what they want the pitcher to work on. Since Parker has been doing some starting, I think it may be that they're trying to work out some sort of mechanical issues or pitch grip/location issues ala Aardsma when he first came into our system.

I'm not talking about his time in Pro ball. Even though they had 2 freshman get significant starts, Parker didn't crack the rotation at Mizzou. He wasn't amazing statistically and he doesn't have great stuff. He's organizational filler.

I don't pay a whole lot of attention to the college game and I'm not real familiar with it; did he come to Mizzou as a starter or do all pitchers get a shot at starting? I was figuring that he's just a career reliever but I've only seen one of his outing I believe.

Anyone care to wager how many batters Samardzija will hit in his two starts at Peoria?

Maybe it's something in that Northwest air ;) Pawelek is hitting guys left and right too.
