Did anyone catch this on the SCORE? He said you can't blame Dusty. He said he doesnt want to be traded and cant without his approval. Same for Dempster. He wants to win a WS here. He said there is no way they can make the playoffs, but when asked about Dusty trying to win every game and not playing the rookies like he should (Murton) Eyre said he didnt understand the question even though it was repeated. When asked about the Jones shouting match, he didnt think Jones' defense was a big deal and said who cares about that since he is hitting over .300.

I still like the guy though.

Hmmm.....Cot's Baseball Contracts doesn't list either of them having a no trade clause. Plus, I just can't believe the Cubs would have agreed to a NTC with them.

Cot's says that Eyre had a no-trade for this season and a limited no-trade for 2007-2008.

Scott Eyre p

3 years/$11M (2006-08)

* signed as a free agent 11/05

* $1M signing bonus

* 06:$2.7M, 07:$3.5M, 08:$3.8M player option

* full NTC for 2006, limited NTC 2007-08 (may block trades to 10 clubs)

* may earn total of $2.8M in incentives over life of the contract

o $0.3M annually in appearance incentives

+ $0.1M for 70 g

+ $0.2M for 80 g

o additional incentives as closer

So he does.....anyways the Cubs would probably want to hang on to him for next year. I don't see one for Dempster listed.

I standby a team refusing to give NTCs. Schuerholz refuses to give them. Although he is forced to deal with them in players he receives that already have NTCs in their contract.

Few players would actually come out in the press and say "oh hell yeah blame our manager."

That would be pathetic.

Eyre's comments are stock for this type of situation. There's probably a "what to say to the press when your team sucks" class that players attend. If so---these are the exact sort of lines that are memorized for the test.

Agreed, but I also think that deep down Eyre doesn't think a manager replacement is needed. And that is a problem.

How? It's not his job to fire Dusty.

Dusty gives Eyre a lot of work. Eyre probably likes working a lot. He has every reason to like him. Especially since Dusty is probably extra nice to him.

If there is one positive to this I would have to say it is good to see that the players are at least taking some responsibility for the bad play and not just finding others to blame.

I listened to the interview and was surprised by how candid he was on all issues. Bottom line, he wants to win in Chicago and is passionate about it similar to how Big Z talks. I'll take that attitude any day over the standard canned baseball player interview with the press always trying to say the PC things.

These guys bring it everyday. Unfortunately, Eyre can't hit or field.

I'm surprised that no one mentioned his quote about why him and Jaque Jones came to the cubs. And that was because they knew Dusty runs a loose club house with few rules. I cant' remember the exact quote, but they have been talking about it on the score for a little bit today..

Something along the lines of.........

Well, I know the reason both Jacque and I signed here was because of Bake. He runs a loose clubhouse with no rules.

I find it funny that Eyre likes to include others in what he says. Including Jacque here and talking about Dempster's contract status(i.e. NTC) the other day. Which it appears he was wrong about. Atleast according to Cot's.

He also went on to clarify that he meant Baker has no rules against facial hair, children in the dugout (I saw Nevin's kid in the dugout a few days ago), and things of that sort...

Really....was that in the same interview? Because of course the Score670 is omitting that portion.

Yeah, they played that part later on. He said other teams don't let you have your kids in the dugout except after a game if you win and stuff like that. I never did hear the whole interview..
