I hate Jane's Addiction with every fiber of my being.

What type of music do you like? It's a serious question; I'm not trying to be a jerk. I just remember a lot of "I hate X" or "X sucks" posts (some of which I've agreed with). Maybe I'm just not remembering the "I love X with all my heart" posts.

I enjoy all varieties -- I don't think there's a genre I "dislike". I believe the only bands in this competition that I hate (so far) are AC/DC and Jane's Addiction. I am not necessarily a fan of bands like the Beatles or Stones or any of the "weed rock" bands, but I recognize and appreciate their contributions to music as well as the talent that they had.

"Weed rock"? That made me laugh. I've heard of "drug rock" but never "weed rock."

As for the substance of your post - fair enough. Maybe I'm just remembering a number of your posts in the AC/DC poll.

X is a band that would get my vote over most of the field of 64.

I'd vote for X over many of these bands too. Especially if X were Wolf Parade.

I was thinking of the X with John and Exene.

There's a little black spot on the sun today

That's my soul up there.

It's the same old thing as yesterday

That's my soul up there.

There's a black hat caught in a high tree top

That's my soul up there.

There's a flag pole rag and the wind won't stop

That's my soul up there.

I have stood here before in the pouring rain

With the world turning circles running 'round my brain.

I guess I'm always hoping that you'll end this reign,

But it's my destiny to be the king of pain...

There's a fossil that's trapped in a high cliff wall

There's a dead salmon frozen in a waterfall

There's a blue whale beached by a springtime's ebb

There's a butterfly trapped in a spider's web

There's a king on a throne with his eyes torn out

There's a blind man looking for a shadow of doubt

There's a rich man sleeping on a golden bed

There's a skeleton choking on a crust of bread

There's a red fox torn by a huntsman's pack

There's a black-winged gull with a broken back

There's a little black spot on the sun today.

It's the same old thing as yesterday,

That's my soul up there.......................

I have stood here before in the pouring rain

With the world turning circles running 'round my brain.

I guess I always thought you could end this reign,

But it's my destiny to be the king of pain.............

I'll always be king of pain............................

It's too bad that Jane's Addiction's most famous song is "Been Caught Stealing", which is far and away their worst song ever and sounds nothing like any of their other songs.

I heard Phish cover this song at one of their shows and have liked the song ever since. More so the Phish version than the original, but still.

Frankly, one of my favorite parts of a Phish show was seeing which covers they'd play. They opened this particular show (at Alpine Valley) w/ Ramble On and BCS was in the encore. Great stuff.

"Stop" and "3 Days" are, IMO, the best songs on that album. If anyone has only heard "...Stealing", they owe it to themselves to check these others out

Jane's Addiction is actually a really good, original sounding group. Nobody ever sounded like them.

Unfortunately, so were the Police, and the lengthy track record of multiple good/great albums make them the choice for me.
