Anyone see the Cardinals-Astros game Sunday night? In the span of 3 innings the 'Stros actually made the Cubs look like a SMART team.

Game tied, bottom of the 9th, guy on second, one out. Long fly to center, the runner (Lane, I think it was) goes back to tag, takes off... and falls down. Barely gets back to the base. Needless to say, he doesn't score.

The next half-inning, Pujols hits a line drive to right-center, the ball inexplicably gets by the right fielder Lane, AND the CF Taveras, who's backing him up. Pujols motors to third, and it might have been close if the ball doesn't also get by the cutoff man! Luckily, Pujols is stranded at third.

Which gives backup catcher Eric Munson a chance to show off his baseball smarts: Two outs, Munson on first, another Astro, the WINNING RUN, on second, and Munson gets PICKED OFF FIRST. Remember, the winning run is AHEAD of him; his presence on the basepaths is inconsequential. He doesn't even need to LEAD OFF. Dumbest play of the year, by far.

The next inning, the 11th, I think, even Phil Garner gets into the act. After the Cardinals go down in their half, Phil is forced to pinch-hit Roy Oswalt, who's hitting a robust .111, since Phil has already USED UP ALL HIS POSITION PLAYERS. Oswalt makes a genius out of him by cracking one up the left-field line for a double, but gets called out for MISSING FIRST BASE. Wow.

In the 10th the 'Stros loaded the bases with one out, but, as you probably figured out already, they don't score. Two strikeouts end the inning.

And you thought it was tough watching the Cubs...

That's just one game though we get that every game!! The piles and piles of hair I've pulled out that collects next to my chair watching the Cubs is horriffic. Tumble weed size!

Silly me. I thought this thread would surely be about the Devil Rays or the Pirates.

But the Astros? They're a perennial playoff team that just went to the World Series! You should take this thread, put it on the Astros board, change all the "Astros" references to "Cubs."

"You think it's tough being an Astros fan? Look at the Cubs!"

Stros fans haven't the first clue what it's like to suffer.

The odd part of the Oswalt play is, as he is rounding first, you really can't tell if his foot hit the bag on the homeplate side or not but the Astro 1B coach is pointing at 1B like he missed the bag but Oswalt kept going. There is no way the 1B umpire can see if he touched the front of the bag or not because he is on the RF side of the bag but he did see the 1b Coach pointing at the bag. The Cards appeal and the ump calls him out. Basically the 1B coach told the ump Oswalt missed first. And there was no argument from Oswalt, the 1B coach, or Garner.

Oh yeah, Lidge is really sucking lately too. He got beat by Eckstein, Taguchi, and Miles Sunday and Saturday he blew the save by giving up a homer to Spezio and then a game tying RBI by Miles. Aaron "freaking" Miles!

However I agree with the others on the 8 1/2 games ahead of us, world series in our lifetime, etc. I'm not going to shed any tears for the poor Astro fans.
