Hell, I consider myself a classic rock aficianado and I can only name one Dead song, "Touch of Grey"

Based on all of your prior posts in this whole set of threads, this really surprises me. You've never heard Ripple, Uncle John's Band, Sugar Magnolia or Shakedown Street?

Based on your other musical tastes you've mentioned on this board, I'd suggest you pick up a copy of Skeletons From the Closet. Though, I really like some of their other stuff on Workingman's Dead, American Beauty, etc.

I actually own Workingman's Dead in my collection of vinyl LP's, just never had the desire to listen to it. I'll do so soon though.

I've just always tried to avoid "jam band" types. I'm more into studio stuff which is why my favs are Beatles, Radiohead, and Tool.

You'd have to know Uncle John's Band and Casey Jones.

Casey Jones? From Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?

Pantera plays Mouth for War. The hippies dont know what to think and get totally rattled and proceed to call a timeout which they dont have ala Chris Webber. The upset is becoming more apparent unless the Dead can form a late charge.

then the Dead go into a 23 minute version of Space and Drums, forget how much time is left, and let the clock expire while spinning in place

I realize the Dead probably impacted more people over a greater period of time, but I'm on the Pantera bandwagon in this matchup.

I just never caught the whole Grateful Dead "thing."

Plus, Dimebag's guitarwork was so sick.

Well, a lot of the stuff on Skeletons & American Beauty is neatly placed in a sub-4 minute package. It's not even like a lot of Phish's studio albums which mix the 3-4 minute songs with the 8+ minute songs. I'm not knocking either style, Phish is actually one of my favorite bands (and no, I'm not a druggie).

I've never been a fan of all the Dead bootlegs, but I really like their studio stuff.

I love that the Dead fans are druggies who spin in place, when Pantera's guitarist was named Dimebag.

I'm not a huge Pantera fan, but since The Dead is one of the most overrated bands of all time, I hope they go down.

I love Tool. Awesome band.

Yes, even my girlfriend who hates metal really enjoys Tool because it's just "Interesting and well done" as she says, as opposed to other metal which can sorta sound similar. Although, i'm not sure TOOL is metal, moreso industrial rock.
