One way to keep from overusing youngsters, but still giving them a chance to get an extended major league trial, might be to piggyback them, like sometimes happens in the minors. For example, they could piggyback Marshall and Guzman (maybe give them each four innings each outing) for one rotation spot and piggyback Hill and Marmol for another spot. You'd have a rotation of Zambrano, Prior, Maddux, Marshall/Guzman, and Hill/Marmol.

I like that idea. But the Cubs staff is too stupid.

And I'm sick of coddling these pitchers. They should pitch, every day, and I don't think 100-110 pitches per outing is such a bad thing. How many did Marshall throw Wed?

This guy CAN'T WAIT until Marshall goes all Wood/Prior up in this joint.

According to the baseball cube, It appears Sean pitched about 160 innings in 2003 between VCU, Boise and Lansing.

Raisin was a band geek, not a math nerd.

Whoops, looked at the wrong line when I was adding it up in my head but looked at the right line while posting the IP.

I was both a band geek and a math nerd in HS.

You better get back to learning your goesinto's then!

I think the key to Marshall is to keep a close eye on him and make sure he isn't tiring and changing his mechanics. I don't really trust the Cubs that much when it comes to that so maybe they should just keep his pitches down per game.
