Zambrano

Zito

Prior

Wood

marshall

Jeff Weaver

You can reasonably assume Zambrano, Zito, Marshall, and Weaver could all make 30 starts. Then hopefully one of either Prior or Wood can make 30. Then if the other one makes 15 starts you can take it away from Marshall and Weaver.

If you want to go young, you have one perfect opportunity...

Now.

There are three months left this season to have at least 3 rookies in the rotation. Z, Prior, Marshall, Guzman and Marmol. Bring up Hill also, put one in long relief or switch 2 of them so they all get to start.

Must we still talk of Hill as a starter? I want to see him tried out in relief so friggin' bad. Edited by Sammy Sofa

This board is seriously overrating Zito.

Too many walks (4.27 / 9), has been homer prone, and he'd be a major flyball pitcher coming to Wrigley. A major flyball pitcher who puts alot of guys on base for free (hit 8 batters so far this, and I just showed the walk rate) coming to Wrigley field?

I don't think so.

Pesonally I think we should trade who we can for solid arms and younger players. A (bad) example would be offering Aramis Ramirez to the Angels or Twins for a package of ready or close to ready prospects/arms.

I've said it before but here goes again. One positive in signing Zito is that his ERA is likely to decrease coming from the AL to the NL. I'm not saying he's going to be great but one must factor that in as well. I don't know if he'll be worth it for the money he's going to command.

His ERA doesn't HAVE to go down. I mean even if it does, a he's a high BB guy who will be coming to a park that doesn't help extreme flyball pitchers like himself.

I can't think of anyone I'd rather want right now, but I'd rather not pay for Zito.

with guzman & marmol in reserve at aaa.

Miller is only throwing 83-85mph in his rehab starts and is only signed for this year. Don't expect to see him next year.

sorry to hear that. i thought he was throwing pretty well in the minors. if the new management would go with 3 rookies as starters, marmol/guzman could take millers spot.

I never said his ERA HAS to go down. I said it was LIKELY to go down. Likely as in not for sure. If we can get him for a good price, then go for it. But the Yankees/Angels/Dodgers are likely to outbid the Cubs.

We need one more stud SP at least. Either Zito or Schmidt. Add in Prior (plz stay healthy), Z, and 2 of Marshall/Hill/Guzman/Marmol and i think you got a good rotation. I think Marmol needs to be sent down to work in AA/AAA and Maddux needs to be traded. We need to pitch Hill, Guzman, Marshall for the rest of the year to see what we have.

It depends a lot on how Prior finishes up the season. If he stays healthy and they keep him around, I'd probably go something like...

Zambrano

Schmidt/Zito

Prior

Two of Marshall/Marmol/Hill/Guzman

Two of the Marshall/Marmol/Hill/Guzman group get traded for a hitter. Also, I'm still very foolishly hoping that Jerome Williams can still put something together. He could factor in as well, even if it's just as a spot starter in case of injury.

This is what I'd like the see the rotation look like next year too. Give me either Schmidt or Z, but the 2003 version plz.

And count me in on the Kerry for Closer BandWGN. It probably won't happen but it's a nice thought.

I'll take the 2006 versions of both pitchers as well.
