the cubs really need to start limiting marshall's innings. whether that means putting him on strict pitch count or skipping him when they get the chance, it needs to happen. he's never thrown more than 100 innings in a season, and he's on pace to go well over that. and he's really sucked his last three times out.

I think todays performence was actually good. The Defense and the Offense let him down in a big time way today...

nine baserunners (though one hit should have been an out) in 4+ innings isn't very good.

How many base runners have Radke had today? Are you saying he's not impressive also today?

he certainly wasn't impressive early on. he's been better the past couple innings.

Neifi makes a heck of a play and Ramirez gets caught out of postion.

Neifi's throw was absolutely horrible on that play. Even if Ramirez was in position, he wouldn't have been able to field that throw.

Marmol and Marshall are better than Hill, when in reality I don't think any of those three guys stand out above each other.

At least Marmol and Marshal has shown some sort of talent and poise. Hill has no poise, walked the world, and just was flat out awful with a 9 ERA.

era of 5 = talent and poise

era of 9 = flat out awful

got it.

Oh c'mon! I'm not going to sit here and bring out all the stats of every start of these pitchers. You watch the games as much as I do, if you can honestly say that Hill has impressed you, then knock yourself out.

hill's 100+ AAA innings have been nothing short of amazing. that's impressed me. i'm not foolish enough to make a judgment based on a few bad big league innings.

I can give you a list of 1000s of minor league pitchers who was lights out in the minors and complete faluires in the Majors.

I think you're wrong. Ramirez should have been on the other side of the bag and closer to it.

Marshall and Marmol could be on that list ten years from now with Hill nowhere near it.

This is simply pathetic. This team, the 2006 Cubs are a grown version of the Bad News Bears. It's disgusting.

Maybe they need Walter Matheau to manage them!

I'm not denying that Ramirez botched his end of it, but I think Neifi is equally responsible for botching that sucker.

hill made a bigger jump last year, struggled a little, and has been written off by many

If Hill was struggling a "Little" he'd still be pitching in the Bigs.

i'm not going to have the hill argument for the 1000th time. he pitched 20 innings in '05 and 20 in '06. he had two terrible outings in '05, but he also had three good to great outings of more than four innings.

i've never said he's cy young, all i'm saying is he deserves a better chance than the ones he's received.

Very true and hey I hope all three of them pitch lights out in the Cubs rotation. You never ever know. Who would've thought Maddux would amount to anything based on his first year in the bigs.

Neifi gets no sympathy from me. Trying to turn a double play while backpedaling. What a clown!

The thing is if Ramirez is where he's suppose to be and not moving it's an easier throw. These little things are what the Cards do a lot better than the Cubs do....winning teams do.

I just defend the play that just happened and not what already happened before that! :D

Marshall deserves better than this. I hope he stays mentally tough and learns from this.

As much as people here have been drooling over Marshall, his numbers have not been all that good this season. He's handled himself well, all things considered, but I don't think he's proven much more than any other pitching prospect in this system.

I mean, for heaven's sake, his ERA is 4.92 with an away ERA of 6.53! That's just dreadful.

I don't think drooling is the word. No one projected him as a number one starter. He made a huge jump from the low Minors and he's held his own.

hill made a bigger jump last year, struggled a little, and has been written off by many.

The circumstances were different last year. This season, look at Marshall's first 4 starts compared to Hill's. Marshall gave up 4/4/2/0 ERs while Hill surrendered 5/5/3/7 ERs. It's no wonder he was sent down. Like I said before, I think Hill will get another chance but he certainly didn't take advantage of his opportunities.

Marshall has been inconsistent but that's to be expected. Unlike Hill, he's shown some dominance on this level; In 8 of his 15 starts he's given up 2 or fewer runs.
