I like Lackey more than Weaver. Lackey did pick up the win in game 7 of the World Series as a rookie. He is a big game pitcher and he is still pretty young at the age of 27.

I'd be really happy with a straight up deal of Weaver for Ramirez.

Please enlighten us as to how well Jered Weaver plays 3b. I must be totally out of the loop on that.

If you're going to trade them to anyone, it should be the Angels. They are the anti-Cubs in terms of developing position players.

Um...as far as I know, he doesn't....hope that helps.

Neither does anyone else on this team. Since Aramis is the only one who can play 3b for this team, I was just wondering who your replacement would be, unless you had some information on Jered Weaver that I was unaware of.

Trade Aram for one of Angels big time prospects, he opts out at the end of the season and signs back with the Cubs

I've always wondered why things like that don't happen a lot more often in sports. The Cubs could have got Soriano for Sosa and resigned him if they did that. I'd just throw in an extra 2 or 3 mil to the contract to get the player to do it. If he liked playing for your team and wanted to win, I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem. He might even get a ring out of it with his temporary team.

I think an NBA team attemped something like this, the raptors come to mind. I beleive the league forfeited their draft picks and fined them as a penelty for it. Does this ring a bell for anyone else? Either way I bet its a no/no in baseball too.

NEIFI, and if you're dumping the season (which trading Aramis is) you can always bring up Theriot or Moore.

If the Angels are willing to trade Jered Weaver for Aramis I don't care if we bring back Macias to finish the year at 3rd. You have to do that deal.

Then what do the Cubs do at 3rd base next year and beyond? Theriot and Moore don't seem like longterm solutions to fill the void.

Do it Hendry, and be prepard to be hanged.

The Angels are NOT going to trade Jared Weaver (I'd prefer Santana, anyways), and the Cubs SHOULD NOT trade ARam. My biggest reason for not trading ARam, is a coomon concern, who would replace ARam at third?

Trading ARam would create ANOTHER hole in the lineup. Now if the Cubs get a 3rd baseman back in an ARam trade (and no MacPherson is not a 3rd baseman, his future lies at 1b/DH) then the Cubs should be willing to deal ARam. But right now, I'm not a real big fan of trading the best 3rd baseman since Santo.

Aramis might not be a a longterm solution either. There is no way we can be sure he will be back next year.

Agreed. If the Cubs had Alex Gordon waiting in the wings in the minors, sure, see what you can get for Aramis. Scott Moore is the only potential hole filler at that position, and there is no guarantee that he'll be anything special in such an important offensive position on the field.

And you can't just pin your hopes that some other deal could fill that huge, gaping hole you just created, therefore you don't make that deal.

Now, Jacque Jones and/or Juan Pierre for Jered Weaver and you got yourself a deal. We have Murton and Pie, and replacing the production of Jacque Jones would be easy to do via free agency.

It would still be a lot easier to keep him than find somebody who can fill the job, even if he does opt out.

true and I don't think there is a situation where the Angels give up Jered Weaver anyways. But if the situation arose I'd take Weaver and deal with 3rd base in the offseason.

I wouldn't. Starting pitching is very important, but you're talking about a once every 5th day starter compared to an everyday player at a tough position to fill, and one of your true offensive threats.

Trading Ramirez better net you an immediate impact offensive position player, or you're stupid for doing it. Despite his slow start he is and will be a very, very good player for the next few years.

Aramis is a good hitter, but he's also a below average defender with some significant health issues. I don't know much about Weaver, but if he's really a top of the rotation starter he would probably be worth more to the team than Ramirez.

FYI, in Aramis' best season, his WARP3 was 6.3. Carlos Zambrano, by way of comparison, has been worth 7.9, 8.8 and 7.8.

ARam had more heart and more hustle, he'd be a keeper. Sometimes he dogs it so much, he makes Ronnie Belliard of the TRIBE look like Pete Rose.

Jered Weaver under control for six years or possibly losing Aramis for nothing at season's end? hmmm....

I think you're thinking of the Joe Smith situation with the Timberwolves.

You guys probably haven't seen Weaver pitch if you dont think hes worth freaking Ram. The money saved on Ram would be open up another 10M or so to spend on offense. Weaver would be controlled by the club for alot longer than Ram will be. Weaver will be more valuable player for years to come than Ram will be. We will need one less pitcher for next year, so it increases ourchances of getting good players in a trade rather than theweak FA market. The reasons to do this trade are numerous.

The reason I proposed it is because I think Weaver is much more valuable to us than Aram for a number of reasons. Yes, you leave a hole at third, but I believe Mora is a free agent. He's just as good an overall player as Aramis and may be cheaper.
